The offseason coaching shakeup in Denver was one of the most surprising and consequential maneuvers of the spring. The decision to axe John Fox in favor of Gary Kubiak wasn't all that surprising given the relationship between Kubiak and John Elway. But it was a little shocking that the club that was in the Super Bowl two short seasons ago wouldn't take one more shot at a title with the Fox-Peyton Manning duo.

Manning is back, and allegedly healthy, so the offense will be fine. (At least until the playoffs.) They have a solid running game and did see their receiver corps turn over with the loss of Julius Thomas and Wes Welker. But the Broncos offensive line is a complete rebuild and, frankly, isn't all that talented.

Kubiak runs a very effective offensive system. He moves the pocket a lot, relies on a lot of misdirection, utilizes the zone blocking scheme, and has built in a lot of safe and simple throws. I expect Manning to pick it up immediately and to once again guide a top-tier offense.

For all the offseason talk about the scheme change on offense, Denver's defense probably holds the key to their season. Von Miller and DeMarcus Ware are both healthy and in their natural positions. And the secondary is stocked with top-end talent. However, the defensive line is mediocre, and there are depth issues at all three levels. With all the money invested on offense, the Broncos have to hope the top 15 guys on defense can stay healthy and productive.

You don't bet against Peyton Manning when it comes to futures plays. You just don't. He is 12-1 against his Las Vegas season win total number the last 13 seasons. That's unbelievable. Even if you don't like the Broncos this year there is still no reason to bet against that trend. This one is easy: play 'over'.
