Oh, Cleveland, you bunch of utter incompetents. God bless you. We couldn't have consistently dominant franchises like Pittsburgh and Baltimore if we didn't have the other side of the coin. And the Browns are other side all right. The dark side.

Cleveland has finished over .500 just three times in 22 years. Last year marked just the fourth time in the last 17 years in which they managed to win seven or more, and they have averaged just five victories per season over the last seven years. In a word: they suck.

The Browns have been outscored in each of the past seven years and 11 times in the last 12 seasons. They scored less than 300 points in 2014, but a feisty defense kept them close enough to suck out three wins by three points or less (while also dumping four games by just four points or fewer).

Cleveland heads into 2014 with one of the worst offenses in football. Again. Their skill position players make up one of the collectively weakest units in football. Josh McCown is a lateral move from Brian Hoyer. And the Browns need to pray that they don't end up in a situation where Johnny Manziel has to take meaningful snaps.

Cleveland's defense overachieved last year. But they bring back a pretty hearty starting 11. Their defensive line is massive. And their secondary is one of the best in football. The linebackers, the key position in a 3-4 base, leave something to be desired. As does the overall depth in the back seven. But this is a solid, but not spectacular, collection.

Cleveland's schedule will be significantly more difficult this season. They open with three winnable games and do have a three-game homestand in December. But in between there is a stretch where the Browns will likely be underdogs in nine straight games. And that doesn't even include December trips to Seattle and Kansas City.

I can't see Cleveland winning seven games again. Their starting 22 could put them in the Top 25 of the league rankings. But their coaching is weak and their depth is horrific. And the Browns aren't going to hold up against their meat-grinder schedule. Play the Browns 'under', as if there were any other way.
