2015 Season Win Total Picks NCAA Football: 'Over'
I was on the Cincinnati bandwagon last year, predicting at least eight wins and an easy 'over' against the season win total. They did me one better, taking nine victories into their bowl game against Virginia Tech. Now I think they can do it again, and I'm not in a hurry to bet against a school that has been one of the most undervalued groups in the country over the past decade.
Cincinnati should have one of the top offenses in the nation this year. They have nine starters back from the No. 13 passing attack and No. 29 scoring offense in the country last year. Gunner Kiel lived up to his hype after transferring from Notre Dame. And he has a load of weapons to work with on that side of the ball.
The defense, which finished No. 96 in total D last year, needs a ton of improvement. But they are hoping a new defensive coordinator - their third in three years - can push the right buttons.
If there is anything that worries me about Cincinnati, it's coach Timmy Tuberville. While he is 18-8 in his two seasons and boasts a winning percentage of .635 in his 18-year career, I simply don't trust him not to blow it.
The Bearcats have a very manageable opening month. Then their swing game is a home date against Miami on Oct. 1 followed by a road trip to BYU two weeks later. They do get Temple and Central Florida in Nippert Stadium, and that could be key in the AAC race. Cincinnati does have to close with three of four games on the road, though.
Cincinnati has averaged 9.2 wins per season over the last nine seasons. They've had just one losing season in that time and have produced several big-time coaches (Mark Dantonio, Brian Kelly, Butch Jones) during that stretch. The Bearcats boast an excellent program that is head and shoulders above the bottom-feeders at the core of the AAC. And I think they'll get to nine wins again this year.
