2015 Chicago Bears Predictions: Season Win Totals Odds and Picks

The Bears are looking to pick up the pieces after the failed Marc Trestman experiment the past two seasons. Trestman was a solid X's and O's coach. But he completely lost control of the locker room, and Chicago slid completely off the rails last season. John Fox was a great hire. And he brought in some of the top assistant coaches in the league, meaning that the Bears are back on the right track.

The biggest issue facing the Bears this year is that they are still shackled to perpetually pouting loser Jay Cutler at quarterback. He drew most of the fans' ire for last year's collapse and is just seeped in bad karma. But Chicago was financially committed to the turnover-prone signal caller, and he's left to take the fall for what will likely be a long season in the Windy City.

Cutler was the whipping boy for a massively underachieving 2013. But the real culprit was Chicago's horrendous defense. In nearly 30 years of being a Bears fan, last season's defense was by far the worst I've ever seen in Chicago. They finished in the bottom three in both points and total yards for the second straight season. And Chicago won't return as a factor in the North until they get back to dominating on that side of the ball.

Chicago brought in former San Francisco defensive coordinator Vic Fangio to turn the stop unit around. However, he inherits 4-3 personnel (the Bears are shifting to a 3-4 base) and a leaky secondary. Any progress won't happen overnight.

The Bears have a lot of indicators pointing toward a significant improvement this year. Their offense and defensive yards per point last year were both outside the norm. They lost a host of close games, and this season they have an easier schedule (although the slate isn't exactly easy). There is also the Fox Factor, as he's been known to turn around teams quickly.

But I'm playing the 'under' here. They are learning new systems on both sides of the ball, and I think they enter the season as the No. 4 team in a really good division. They have a lot of talented players, and Fox has a proven track record. But this rebuild involved a complete tear down, and it will be at least a year before Fox is able to get the Bears back in the hunt.
