Case of the Mondays: Green Bay Clutchless in Seattle
by Ricky Dimon - 1/19/2015
From a mathematical standpoint, Green Bay's NFC Championship collapse was not one for the record books. But anyone who gave it the eye test knows it was
one of the biggest chokes in NFL history. As for Sunday's other game, there was no opportunity for any kind of meltdown. It was simply one-way traffic
right from the start-thus setting up a mouth-watering Super Bowl matchup.

Brandon Bostick
. The ways in which the Packers could have clinched the NFC Championship are innumerable. I'm talking like novels could be written-and might be!-discussing
Green Bay's myriad methods of choking. There was an inability to run out the clock on not one, but two separate drives. There was Morgan Burnett taking a
knee after an interception instead of running for miles and miles because he thought the game was over. There was Ha Ha Clinton-Dix inexplicably not
defending a Hail Mary of a two-point conversion. And then there was Bostick, whose muffed recovery attempt of a decisive onside kick will not soon be
forgotten. Sports are cruel, because it may not be an exaggeration to say this is a life-changer for Bostick.
Indianapolis Colts . How big of a snooze-fest was the AFC Championship? Let's just say I watched tennis instead. Granted, I'm into tennis and have great interest in the Australian Open, but the point remains the same. Indianapolis at least scored a late first-half touchdown and was within 10 points at the break, but New England restored order to the proceedings swiftly and decisively when the game's final 30 minutes began. The Patriots outscored the visitors 28-0 in the second half en route to a laugher of a 45-7 victory. Andrew Luck was a shockingly horrendous 12-of-33 passing for 126 yards, no touchdowns, and two interceptions. New England is a -1.5 favorite in the Super Bowl.
Toronto Raptors
. There has been seismic shift in the power balance of the NBA's Eastern Conference since the first two months of this season. In part thanks to a pair of
wins over the now on-fire Hawks, Toronto had control early with starts of 13-2 and 24-7. The Raptors have since compiled 2-7 record and they are currently
on a two-game losing streak. Of course, an even bigger reason for the fact they are suddenly 6.5 games out of first place is Atlanta. Mike Budenholzer's
squad, which scored a 110-89 road blowout of Toronto last Friday, is an incredible 26-2 in its last 28 contests and is 33-8 overall. The Raptors are -2 favorites at Milwaukee on Monday.
Pekka Rinne
. It's hard to imagine the loss of any goalie being more significant than Rinne going down with an injury. First of all, the 32-year-old Finn is second in
the NHL in both save percentage and goals-against average. Secondly, his team is outstanding. The Nashville Predators are 30-10-4 and in second place in
the Western Conference (and in the entire league). Rinne, however, sustained a sprained knee in last Tuesday's win over Vancouver and he is expected to be
sidelined for three to five weeks. That means he will miss somewhere between 10 and 18 games. Nashville is +1000 to win the Western Conference.
Caris LeVert
. First they lost to the New Jersey Institute of Technology at home. Then they scored 42 points in a home loss to Eastern Michigan. Now they will be
without their leading scorer for the remainder of the season. It has been a rough go for the Michigan Wolverines, who saw LeVert reinjure his left foot in
last Saturday's win over Northwestern. The junior guard had been averaging 14.9 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 3.7 assists per game in 2014-15. That could be
the end of his college career for LeVert, who is a potential first-round NBA Draft pick. It could also be the end of Michigan's hopes for a fifth
consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance. Michigan is +50000 to win the national title; Kentucky is -130.
Manchester City
. This seems to be a case of Manchester City throwing the kitchen sink at Chelsea to reach the top of the Premier League and now having nothing left. After
trailing the Blues for the entire season, City climbed into a tie atop the EPL table with 46 points earlier this month. Fast forward just two matches and
the Sky Blues are now five points out of first. After drawing with Everton a week earlier, Man City was manhandled by Arsenal in a 2-0 loss on Sunday.
Chelsea, meanwhile, has won two in a row by a combined score of 7-0 at the expense of Newcastle and Swansea. In the Champions League, Chelsea is a +650
fourth choice to win it all.
Matt Every
. It's not every day that a golfer gets disqualified from a PGA Tour event for a non-conforming club. But that is exactly what happened to Every at last
week's Sony Open. The winner of the 2013 Arnold Palmer Invitational bent his 4-iron while hitting a shot during the first round. On his ninth hole the
following day, he used the same club. Every realized the possible infraction for an illegal club, called over a rules official, and was promptly booted out
of the tournament. Of course, Every would most likely have been headed for an early exit no matter what; he was 5-over at the time, well outside of the cut
line. Jimmy Walker, who won the tournament, is +800 to be the PGA Tour's money leader at the end of 2015.
