Sunday afternoon's game between the Dallas Cowboys and Philadelphia Eagles was already bad enough even without any serious injuries. Then Tony Romo went
down with a broken left clavicle. Head coach Jason Garrett must have a lot on his mind these days, what with Dez Bryant already out for a substantial chunk
of time because of a foot problem. But at least Garrett got a win this past weekend. The same cannot be said of Rex Ryan and Nick Saban.

Everyone on the Cowboys and Eagles
. You had to figure at least one team would go home happy from Sunday's NFC East showdown between Dallas and Philadelphia. Not so. The Cowboys won a
horribly-played contest 20-10 but lost their quarterback for approximately eight weeks. As for the Eagles, they embarrassed themselves in front of the home
crowd while falling to 0-2. Sam Bradford turned the ball over three times and DeMarco Murray rushed 13 times for a grand total of two yards. Philadelphia is a -2 favorite at the New York Jets in Week 3.
Rex Ryan
. When Ryan woke up on Sunday morning, he probably did not envision his day would include a postgame admission that Bill Belichick outcoached him. But the
Buffalo Bills' head man said exactly that after his team lost 40-32 to Belichick's New England Patriots. Tom Brady torched Ryan's defense for 466 passing
yards and three touchdowns. Buffalo QB Tyrod Taylor threw three interceptions and the home team also fumbled three times but was lucky enough to recover
the ball on all three occasions. The Bills gave up 21 unanswered points in the first half and trailed by as much as 37-13 before mounting a brief
fourth-quarter charge. New England is a +500 second choice to win
the Super Bowl.
Alabama
. Nobody can argue that Saturday night's SEC battle between the Alabama Crimson Tide and Ole Miss Rebels boiled down to coaching. Saban's team simply did
not play well in a 43-37 loss-at least not well enough to take care of business at home against Ole Miss. Alabama committed a whopping five turnovers and
did not force a single one. Despite all of that, the Tide still had the ball late in the fourth quarter while trailing by only six. Fittingly, their hopes
ended with another Jake Coker interception. Alabama is a -38 home favorite over Louisiana-Monroe
this weekend.
Toronto Blue Jays
. Toronto is still in the driver's seat in the American League East, but it is not shutting the door. The Blue Jays lost to the Boston Red Sox twice in
succession on Saturday and Sunday, resulting in a current separation of a mere three games between Toronto and the New York Yankees. Just as easily, the
margin could-and should?-be five. The Jays gave up five runs in the ninth inning in the second game of the series (lost 7-6) and blew a three-run lead in
the finale (lost 4-3). The Yankees have won two in a row to get back within striking distance. Toronto is a +165 favorite to win the AL Pennant.
Kevin Harvick
. The first race in the Chase for the Sprint Cup, NASCAR's version of playoffs, could not have gone much worse for Harvick. The No. 4 car started on the
pole on Sunday in Chicago but got bumped by Jeff Gordon on a restart and finished 42nd, a million laps off the pace. Harvick, who shoved/punched
Gordon in the chest in a post-race altercation, is in last place among the 16 Chase drivers and admitted that he must win one of the next two events in
order to qualify for the ensuing round. Denny Hamlin took home the checkered flag. Kyle Busch is a +400 favorite at Sportsbook.ag to win the Sprint Cup.
Manchester City
. Through their first five matches of the 2015-16 English Premier League season, the Sky Blues were 5-0-0 and had not allowed a single goal. Then Saturday
happened. West Ham went into Etihad Stadium and upset the home team 2-1 thanks to a pair of first-half goals. Man City controlled the last 45 of minutes of
play but failed to notch and equalizer after pulling within one. Combined with Manchester United's 3-2 victory over Southampton, City's setback leaves it
just two points ahead of Man U atop the table. West Ham has stormed into a tie for third, only three points back. Manchester City is -175 to win the
Premier League title.
Justin Thomas
. Jason Day dominated the BMW Championship from start to finish, just as he has plenty of other golf tournaments in recent months. So there were not
exactly any heartbreaking losses for any of the hopeless challengers. But the proceedings in Lake Forest, Ill. also determined the 30 spots at this week's
Tour Championship in Atlanta. Every year there are some odd men out who just barely missed, and this time around Thomas was among the group. The
22-year-old out of Alabama actually moved up from 35th to 32nd with his T13 showing at the BMW, but he was well within the proverbial
cut line after the first two days. At 10-under going in Saturday, Thomas stumbled to rounds of 70 and 71 while being overtaken by Harris English late on
Sunday. Daniel Summerhays plunged six places in the standings from 25th to the No. 31 nightmare, dooming his chances early with opening scores
of 70 and 72. Day is a +300 favorite at Bovada Sportsbook to win the Tour Championship.
