2015 Season Win Total Picks NCAA Football: 'Over'
Last year the talk around Boise State was about how they'd survive without Chris Peterson. The answer was: just fine. The Broncos went 12-2 last year and won yet another Mountain West title. But this year the questions around this team focus on how they will survive without quarterback Grant Hedrick and running back Jay Ajayi, who combined for 89 percent of the team's yards and 92 percent of their touchdowns.
Boise State has 17 starters back and will likely start the season in the Top 25. However, they do need to replace their two best offensive players. And they need to do it quickly, as they face their former coach (and the guy that recruited most of the players on this roster) when Washington comes to Boise for what should be an extremely emotional opening game.
The Broncos have to travel to BYU the next week in a clear letdown situation. And they will have to be at their best if they want to avoid an 0-2 start. I think 1-1 is more likely. But from there the Broncos should dominate the Mountain West - again.
Boise State does have to travel to Colorado State and to Utah State in their biggest stretch of the season. But they follow that with three of their next four at home, and the two final road games should be easy wins at UNLV and SJSU.
Expectations are going to be high for this team. And I think the first two games of the season are going to set the tone. If they win both then this could be a fringe playoff contender. If they win just one of these games they should get to 10 wins. And that's what I'm going to call for: an early-season split and then another loss either at Virginia or at Utah State. It should be smooth sailing other than that, though, and I like Boise State to go 'over'.
