The Zips get the job done with defense. That makes them a lot different from the rest of the teams in the MAC. Akron has the best defense again this year even though they have only six of their starters back. That defense will need to lead the way for a team that was outscored by only six points on the season.
Akron has a senior quarterback to build around in Kyle Pohl. He needs to stay healthy.
Akron opens the season at Oklahoma. Then they come home and face Pittsburgh and its strong running game. Those are two very opposite games to prepare for. Akron's schedule gets easier in November. But they could be really banged up by then. They have one of the easiest schedules in the MAC. But they still need to get the wins in games they should. There will be a lot of upsets in this league this year.
If you read this season win total number, the Zips are expected to compete for the league title. Only two other teams have their season win total set higher. I don't think Akron will meet its lofty goals. I would play them 'under' their season win total here.
