The World Cup may be the biggest betting event in all of sports-with all due respect to the Super Bowl-and beginning June 12 bettors will have their fill of wall-to-wall sports gambling actions for a over a month. All the recent talk about team USA has left the impression that the squad would be lucky to score multiple goals during the group stage. It's a bad sign for things to come when even the team's coach goes on record saying his squad cannot win the World Cup. For those that have not been following the story, Klinsmann recently spoke with the New York Times and said in an interview that team USA "cannot win this World Cup, because we are not at that level yet".

However, wagering on the squad not making it out of the group stage at -500 might be too steep of a price to make the bet worthwhile. Betting on the team to be eliminated in the second round may have some value at +275 and could be an entertaining bet to follow if nothing else. If your bankroll is big enough to put $500 on hold for a few weeks, then wagering on team USA to be eliminated during the group stage is a solid spot to take.

Dempsey is set to be the centerpiece of USA's offense during the World Cup and is the favorite to be the team's top scorer. Altidore hasn't scored a goal in 27 games and may have confidence issues as the pressure mounts for him to finally kick one into the back of the net. As overmatched as team USA might, be predicting them to not score a goal during multiple group stage games is a bit farfetched. A bet on Bradley may have the most value for this prop as Team USA has made an effort leading up to the World Cup to be more aggressive on offense by using him in attacking situation. Dempsey and Altidore receive most of the attention, and coach Klinsmann's recent effort to be more aggressive with Bradley could win bettors a solid profit.

Top North American Team

Mexico: -125

USA: +160

Costa Rica: +600

Honduras: +800

No North American team is expected to go far in 2014's World Cup. This wager will be which North American team will go the farthest in the tournament, and if no squad advances the team with the most points wins the wager. Costa Rica and Honduras winning this wager would be shocking, especially since the oddsmakers expected both squads to score less than 1.5 goals in during the group stage. The wager will probably come down to USA and Mexico, and while the Mexican team is traditionally very good, 2014 might be a letdown year for them. There is value in taking Team USA plus the positive payout.

Team USA has one of the lowest group-stage points over-under lines of any team in the World Cup. Of course it is not as low as Costa Rica's 0.5 over-under line. During the 2010 World Cup Team USA managed to score four goals and make a knockout round appearance. This year the squad will have far more difficult group stage matchups against Germany and Portugal. USA should be able to score a goal against Ghana; the question is whether or not they can get two more against Germany and Portugal?
