Weekly Q&A with Doc's Sports Expert Handicapper Raphael Esparza
by Doc's Sports - 6/10/2014
Doc's Sports Advisory Board continues its successful run in the sports selection industry that has been going on for well over four decades with a fantastic start to a new MLB season as well as a profitable run through both the NBA and NHL playoffs. The start of another football season is still a couple of months away, but we are already making preparations for another winning campaign in the sport that has made us famous over these many years. One of the biggest benefits to our sports selection packages is the use of Doc's Unit Betting System that delivers a proven money management system to successfully build your bankroll. The other is a very talented team of expert handicappers that continue to crank out winners for all the major sports.
When it comes to producing winners, one of our top expert handicappers for the past eight years has been Raphael Esparza. He was formally known as the Vegas Informer during a long and illustrious career working behind the counter for some of the biggest sportsbooks in Las Vegas that culminated with the rise to the prestigious position of Director of the Race and Sports Book for MGM Grand's Aria.
Raphael decided to retire from the sportsbook industry late last summer. He now spends all of his time honing his craft with the help of a solid network of some of the biggest and most influential insiders in Las Vegas. These professionals know the sports betting industry inside and out, and he has done a great job at incorporating this "inside edge" into all the picks he releases. What really takes Raphael's selection service stand above and beyond in a very competitive industry is the ability to offer packages for a wide array of sports that include the WNBA, horse racing, boxing, professional tennis and soccer leagues all around the globe.
Doc's Sports has been sitting down with Raphael for quite some time now for a weekly Q&A to provide out loyal readers with exclusive access to this "inside edge". Our goal in these discussions is to get his expert feedback on some of the hottest trending topics in the sports betting industry today. What better source is there than someone with inside access to the undisputed sports gambling capital of the world? The following is this week's conversation.
Doc's Sports: The NBA Finals are knotted at one game apiece heading into Tuesday night's Game 3 in Miami, but which team do you think has the overall edge after watching the first two contests; the Spurs or the Heat?
RE: I would have to give the slight edge to Miami after stealing Game 2 on the road. The key to this series no matter which team wins on Tuesday night is Thursday's Game 4. The team that wins that showdown should go on to win this year's NBA title.
Doc's Sports: Los Angeles has raced its way to a commanding 3-0 series lead in this year's NHL Stanley Cup Finals against New York. Do you have the Kings skating away with the Cup on Wednesday night at Madison Square Garden, or can the Rangers stave off elimination with a win?
RE : I bet the series price on the Rangers for the NHL Finals, and I was extremely disappointed to see how flat they came out at home on Monday night after at least putting themselves in position to win one of those first two games. I think the blown leads in both Game 1 and 2 took all the wind out of New York's sails, so I would not be surprised in the least to see the Kings close out their fourth straight series with a win on the road.
Doc's Sports : The 2014 World Cup gets underway this Thursday with a matchup between the host country Brazil and Croatia. Can you give us one or two early matchups that are at the top of your list as "must see" TV over the next few days?
RE: Friday probably has the best overall slate for the first weekend of action, especially the matchup between Mexico and Cameroon to kick things off. The match between England and Italy on Saturday should be interesting given the history between these two teams.
Doc's Sports: California Chrome's run to an elusive Triple Crown title came up short in last Saturday's Belmont Stakes. However, since this run has helped to reinvigorate excitement in the sport of horse racing, what is the next big graded stakes race that we should be focusing our attention on?
RE: The main focus in horse racing after the Triple Crown season is the road to the Breeders' Cup in November. There are a number of challenge races on the schedule that act as an automatic qualifier for the various races that make up this two-day event. Two big races that come to mind as an automatic qualifier for the Breeders' Cup Classic are the Gold Cup at Santa Anita on June 28 and the Pacific Classic in late August at Del Mar.
Doc's Sports : Professional golf's second major of the season takes place this week with the US Open at Pinehurst. Is this an event that you will handicap, and if so do you have any inside tips for wagering on this year's US Open?
RE: I used to bet on head-to-head matchups for just about every golf tournament years ago, but after Las Vegas started getting beat up on these types of bets it began to shy away from releasing odds for golf on a regular basis. That was when I got away from handicapping this sport, but the one thing I would recommend is to only concentrate your efforts on head-to-head matchups if you are going to bet on golf.
