Here is to a positive 2014, although the year started with negative numbers getting the most attention as in negative temperatures and wind chills that swept over the midwest and northeast. In the sports world those negative numbers were most noticeable at Lambeau Field on Sunday where the 49ers defeated the Packers 23-20 in an NFC wild-card game played in -10 degree wind chill at kickoff that only got worse as the game progressed.
2: Wins Michigan State has against Top-3 teams this season after the Spartans defeated No. 3 Ohio State on Tuesday. Earlier in the season they defeated No. 1 Kentucky.
20-3. Run Ohio State closed out Tuesday’s game at Michigan State with to force overtime. The Buckeyes would still lose 72-68 in overtime.
30, 9, 8, 5. Stat line for Iowa State senior DeAndre Kane in an 87-72 win over No. 7 Baylor Tuesday night. Kane had 30 points, 9 assists, 8 rebounds and 5 steals as No. 9 Iowa State won its school-record 14th straight game.

$50,000. Fine levied against New York Knick J.R. Smith for “recurring instances of unsportsmanlike conduct.” The fine comes after Smith untied Shawn Mario’s shoelaces on Sunday and attempted to untie Greg Monroe’s shoelaces on Tuesday.
