Thank God it's Friday: Thunder Rolled Out of San Antonio
by Ricky Dimon - 5/23/2014
Some say that a series does not really start until one team wins a game on the road. Well, the Oklahoma City Thunder may not have heard the gun go off. And
they are lucky if their Western Conference Finals series against San Antonio has not already ended. Oklahoma City is heading home trailing 2-0-and an
extremely emphatic 2-0, at that. Off the playing surface, meanwhile, it has been rough sledding of late for Aaron Hernandez and Caroline Wozniacki…for much
different reasons, of course.

Oklahoma City Thunder
. Losing two in a row to the Spurs on the road is by no means terrible. After all, they rolled to the NBA's best regular-season record at 62-20 and went
32-9 at home. It's the way in which Oklahoma City lost the two contests, though, that has to leave the West's No. 2 seed demoralized. After dropping Game 1
by 15 points, OKC lost by 35 on Wednesday amidst a flurry of seven three-pointers by San Antonio's Danny Green. Kevin Durant shot just 6-for-16 (0-for-4
from downtown) in Game 2 and scored a mere 15 points. The Thunder are -2 home favorites on Sunday and +700 to win the series.
Chicago Blackhawks
. Their own stellar play combined with results elsewhere in the playoff bracket have left the Blackhawks as the obvious favorites to successfully defend
their 2013 Stanley Cup title. After taking care of St. Louis and Minnesota, they looked poised to take even more control of the postseason proceedings by
pulling ahead of Los Angeles 2-0. With Game 1 in hand, Chicago led Game 2 of the Western Conference Finals 2-0 on Wednesday. Instead of closing the door,
the home team allowed six consecutive goals to watch the Kings tie up the series in convincing fashion. The Blackhawks are +110 road underdogs on Saturday
and -120 favorites to win the series.
Detroit Tigers
. The Tigers went 6-0 from last Monday through last Sunday. They are currently working on a mirror image, with four consecutive losses from Monday through
Thursday. Detroit lost in one of the worst possible ways in their series finale at Cleveland. The visitors blew saves on two different occasions, first in
the bottom of the ninth after leading by two and again in the bottom of the 13th after scoring one run in the top half. The game then ended on a walk-off
balk by Al Alburquerque. It was the MLB's first walk-off balk since Kansas City endured the gaffe on July 4, 2011. Detroit is a +225 favorite to win the
American League Pennant and a +500 favorite to win the World Series
.
Orlando Magic
. When you stink (a 23-59 record, for example), you are supposed to be rewarded with a favorable draft pick. Okay, fourth really isn't that bad-but it's
not the spot you want when you stink as bad as the Magic. With the third-worst record this season, Orlando had almost a 50 percent chance of landing in the
top three of the NBA Draft order and a 15.6 percent chance of snagging the No. 1 overall selection. For those counting, that's 13.9 percent better than
eventual lottery winner Cleveland. Adding insult to injury, all three teams that will pick ahead of the Magic are Eastern Conference rivals-with Milwaukee
and Philadelphia coming in behind the Cavs. Former Kansas teammates Joel Embiid and Andrew Wiggins are -110 co-favorites to be the No. 1 pick.
Aaron Hernandez
. Already on trial for the killing of semi-pro football player Odin Lloyd, Hernandez was indicted last week for a double-murder that occurred one year
earlier. A grand jury in Suffolk County, Mass. voted to charge the former New England Patriots' tight end with two counts of first-degree murder for
killing two men at a stoplight in Boston on July 16, 2012. Meanwhile, media outlets are eating up this week's story in which investigators want to have a
talk with the tattoo artist who did the job on Hernandez's right forearm. The Patriots are +1000 to win the Super Bowl; Denver and Seattle
are +600 co-favorites.
Kurt Busch
. Busch is attempting to become the first driver since 2001 to complete the Indianapolis 500/Coca-Cola 600 on Sunday. His quest to accomplish the
IndyCar-NASCAR feat of 1,100 miles did not, however, get off to a good start on Monday. The elder Busch brother slammed into a wall during Indy 500
practice and will have to use a backup vehicle for his first race of the two. Busch, using one of teammate Marco Andretti's cars, will start from the 12th
position in Indianapolis. Andretti is a +500 favorite, while Busch is +3000.
Caroline Wozniacki
. Over the past few years, Wozniacki's tennis game has been in borderline shambles while she seemingly could not have been in a better place off the court.
Wozniacki and PGA Tour star Rory McIlroy were one of sport's power couples, but that all ended on Wednesday when McIlory called off their engagement just
as wedding invitations were going out. "There is no right way to end a relationship that has been so important to two people," McIlroy said. "The problem
is mine. The wedding invitations issued at the weekend made me realize that I wasn't ready for all that marriage entails." Speaking of being ready,
Wozniacki is down at No. 14 in the world, and she has played only one clay-court tournament this spring due to a knee injury. For multiple reasons now, her
status for the French Open is questionable. Serena Williams is an even-money favorite; Rafael Nadal is a +120 favorite on the men's side.
