Super Bowl Cross-Sport Props vs. NBA with Odds and Predictions
by Alan Matthews - 1/30/2014
I used to be a print journalist, and I know how much newspaper folks are overworked and underpaid. I honestly don't know the demographics or working hours of the oddsmakers at the various books, but I'm sure it's along the same lines. They don't have to pay their workers those high U.S. rates, for one.

Super Bowl Handicapping: Line Movement 2014
by Trevor Whenham - 1/30/2014
Because of the popularity of betting on the NFL you can learn a whole lot from looking at how lines are set and how they move. The betting volume for the Super Bowl is massive - dramatically bigger than any other game - and the public comes out in full force. That means that studying line movement is both more important, and potentially more illuminating, than ever.

Super Bowl Cross-Sport Props Picks vs. Golf
by Alan Matthews - 1/30/2014
I love football season, and it's usually my busy time and when I make the most money. Certainly no two weeks are more hectic for a sports gaming writer than leading into the Super Bowl. That said, I am ready for the game and about Super Bowl'd out. I'm not complaining; I love doing the homework because it's a passion and something I'd be doing regardless. But there's just a bit of overkill for the big game.

Super Bowl Cheat Sheet: Taking a Closer Look at the Stats

The Super Bowl XLVIII matchup between the Denver Broncos and Seattle Seahawks will be the biggest and most-watched game of the year. The casual fans and bettors will all flock to televisions and betting sites on Sunday trying to take part in the must-see sporting event of the year. At this point in the week, everyone has an opinion on how the game will play out. Your uncle that never watches football has a hot tip on the "under," while your mother is backing Denver minus the points because Peyton Manning needs another Super Bowl win for his legacy.

2014 Super Bowl Props: Matchups Odds and Predictions
by Trevor Whenham - 1/29/2014
It's Super Bowl season, so that means that it's prop betting season. Some of my favorite kinds of prop bets each year are the player matchup props - as much because of the handicapping puzzle as for the potential value that can be found. Here are five of the 2014 Super Bowl matchup props that stand out as among the most interesting:

Handicapping Russell Wilson in the Super Bowl 2014
by Trevor Whenham - 1/29/2014
When it comes to quarterbacking storylines in the Super Bowl, Seattle's Russell Wilson can't hold a candle to Peyton Manning. Pretty much no one could. While Manning is the big star of the game, though, Wilson is a key figure in the outcome of the game as well, and he's an important consideration for handicappers.

Super Bowl Teasers: Best Betting Options for the Big Game
by George Monroy - 1/29/2014
There are so many wagers to be made on Super Bowl XLVIII that a novice bettor might be confused by all the action-heck, professional bettors can get overwhelmed by the number of betting options for the 'big game'. If you are a bettor that is looking for something more than just the straight up lines but don't want to get mixed up in weird "National Anthem" or Gatorade bath prop bets, then wagering on a six-point two-team teaser might be your best option.

Super Bowl Halftime Betting Advice and Strategy
by Nicholas Tolomeo - 1/29/2014
The length of an NFL halftime is 12 minutes - except for one game every season: the Super Bowl. For the Super Bowl, the NFL more than doubles the halftime in length to 30 minutes. While fans may mind a mediocre halftime act and a longer wait, Las Vegas sure does not. With a halftime line released almost the second the first half clock reaches 0:00, gamblers have a half hour to place a Super Bowl second-half wager. The Super Bowl second-half line is easily the most wagered halftime line of the NFL season.

2014 Super Bowl Handicapping: Injuries of Note
by Trevor Whenham - 1/29/2014
You don't want to see the Super Bowl decided because of injuries. Luckily, this year we aren't likely to see injuries be a major factor in the game - unless there is a major incident in practice this week. Here's a look at the injury situations for both teams:

2014 Super Bowl Props Picks with Betting Odds
by Alan Matthews - 1/28/2014
Clearly I can't start any overall Super Bowl props picks story without first looking at the most popular one every year: game MVP. Frankly, I hate this prop now. Why? It's such a popularity contest these days -- surprised it's not decided by Twitter votes by fans or something yet -- and that means a quarterback has such a big advantage because they are clearly the most well-known players on the field.

Super Bowl First Player to Score Props Picks 2014
by Aaron Smith - 1/28/2014

2014 Super Bowl Quarterbacks: Manning vs. Wilson
by Trevor Whenham - 1/28/2014
The quarterbacks are always a big story in the Super Bowl. That is especially the case here, though. Peyton Manning is the biggest story in the game, and given the surprising lack of personalities and intriguing storylines on the Broncos this year he will get even more than the very significant amount of attention he would get regardless.

by Trevor Whenham - 1/27/2014
As we get ready for the Super Bowl, handicappers have many factors to consider. Some of those factors are very overrated in terms of their importance to the outcome of the game compared to the attention they get. Others are underrated and don't get the attention they deserve. Here are four that fit into each category for your 2014 Super Bowl handicapping:

Super Bowl Halftime Betting Advice and Strategy
by Trevor Whenham - 1/22/2014
There are a lot of reasons I love the Super Bowl. The biggest of all, though, is probably halftime betting. The game is such an immense challenge to handicap that being able to make bets after watching the first half is a real advantage. Given the extra long halftime because of the halftime show, it is even more compelling to bet the second half than usual.

2014 Free Super Bowl Picks
by Alan Matthews - 1/22/2014
What more can you ask for in Super Bowl XLVIII next Sunday at MetLife Stadium outside New York -- other than some warm weather (I actually prefer it snows as that makes for great TV) -- between Denver and Seattle? It's the top two seeds in each conference, which hasn't happened since the 2009 season when Peyton Manning's Colts lost to the New Orleans Saints. It's also just the sixth time since the merger that the top-rated offense will face the top-rated defense (defense is 4-1 in the previous five).

Betting the Super Bowl Over and Under
by Dave Schwab - 1/22/2014
The Super Bowl has become the most heavily-wagered-on single-day sporting event in the world over the first 47 years of its existence, and Super Bowl XLVIII at MetLife Stadium next Sunday, Feb. 2, will be no exception. The Denver Broncos have been listed by BetOnline as 2.5-point favorites over the Seattle Seahawks, but the number I want to focus on is the current "over/under" line of 47.

Tips and Advice for Betting on Super Bowl Props

The Super Bowl is the biggest single-day sporting event in the world, especially when it comes to wagering on the game. This year's matchup features the Denver Broncos as three-point favorites over the Seattle Seahawks, with the total line set at 48. The game will have the added attraction of being the first Super Bowl to be played at an outdoor venue in a cold-weather site with the kickoff slated for 6:25 p.m. (ET) on Sunday, Feb. 2 at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

Super Bowl Betting Advice: Mistakes to Avoid
by Trevor Whenham - 1/22/2014
The Super Bowl is a very, very tough football game to handicap successfully. Given the neutral field, the intense scrutiny, the tremendous pressure both teams face, the enhanced public betting action, and so much more, this is far from the best betting opportunity of the year. It's the Super Bowl, though, so any self-respecting bettor needs to have some action on the game. Most years, the most important key to betting success in this game has nothing to do with how you break it down.

Betting on the Super Bowl Coin Toss
by Alan Matthews - 1/21/2014
I have to admit that I'm a fairly long-winded person. I seemed to always do well on term papers in high school and college simply because I would usually double the amount of pages that the teacher requested. You know, overwhelm them with more quantity than quality.

2014 Super Bowl Weather: Handicapping the Elements
by Trevor Whenham - 1/21/2014
Maybe it is because when I look out my office window right now I see a big snow drift - as I expect to for six or more months each year. Or maybe it's because I'm a Canadian and we are used to winter. Or maybe I'm just not a wimp. Whatever the reason, I think the whole controversy over the potential of a cold-weather Super Bowl is one of the most ridiculous storylines i have heard when it comes to the NFL - and that's saying something.

Well here we are - down to the final two. I have been making and amending 2014 Super Bowl predictions since last February, and now it is time to do it for the last time.
