2014 Stanley Cup Finals Series Odds and Prop Bet Predictions
by George Monroy - 6/3/2014
The Los Angeles Kings completed a thrilling come-from-behind victory during Game 7 of the Western Conference Finals to set up huge matchup between two of the league's marquee team's-at least market wise-when they face the New York Rangers in the Stanley Cup Finals on Wednesday night inside the Staples Center.
The Rangers needed only six games to end their Eastern Conference Finals matchup against the Montreal Canadiens and will now participate in the first Los Angeles versus New York championship matchup in any sport since 1981 when the Yankees and Dodgers squared off in the World Series. The Stanley Cup Finals series is set to begin on Wednesday at 8 p.m. EST, but before that happens let's take a closer look at a few betting options for the Kings versus Rangers series.
Game 1 Odds
Kings: -150
Rangers: +130
Total: 5
New York has been on an absolute tear during Game 1s over the course of the playoffs. The Rangers have gone 3-0 and outscored their opponents 13-4 over the first three rounds. Los Angeles, on the other hand, has gone 1-2 during its first three Game 1s and has been outscored 11-10 during those matchups. Both teams have proven that they do not need home-ice advantage to succeed in the playoffs, and Los Angeles' slow starts throughout the playoffs may a solid reason to take the Rangers and the positive payout for Game 1.
Series Odds
Kings: -170
Rangers: +150
Both squads feel like they are riding a wave of destiny heading into the Stanley Cup Finals. Los Angeles, however, had a brutal road to the championship round and faced the top three teams in the Western Conference, while New York, as well as they played, had to face one only truly elite team in the Pittsburgh Penguins. Both goaltenders have played fantastic throughout the postseason, so offense will probably be a key factor in what is expected to be a low-scoring series.
New York and Los Angeles have both thrived in the role of underdog, so there is definite value in riding that trend and taking the Rangers to win this series. Los Angeles is the more talented team, though, and there is really no reason to over think this wager-take the favorite and home-ice advantage in this matchup.
Exact Series Results Odds
Kings in four: +1000
Kings in five: +350
Kings in six: +400
Kings in seven: +300
Rangers in four: +1200
Rangers in five: +600
Rangers in six: +450
Rangers in seven: +500
The most-likely outcome, according to the oddsmakers, is Los Angeles in five or seven games. The Kings have played in three straight Game 7s, and another long series is probably what both teams are headed for. The best value seems to be with either team winning the series in six games. These seven-game series are spectacular for fans, but they can't happen every round. One team is bound to get the upper hand and close out a series during the first opportunity. Los Angeles in six games at +400 feels like the best wager to make.
Shots on Goal Props Odds
Kings "over-under": 29.5
Rangers over-under 30.5
Los Angeles averaged 31.5 shot on goal during the regular season and managed to go over 29.5 shots four times during its Western Conference Finals matchup against Chicago. New York gave up an average of 29.1 shots per game during the regular season, so taking the over for Los Angeles might be the safest bet.
New York, on the other hand, averages 32.4 shots during the regular season but managed to go over the 30.5 mark only twice during its six-game Eastern Conference Finals series. Los Angeles also allowed only 27 shots on goal during the regular season and will probably keep the Rangers under 31 shots for Game 1.
