Phil Mickelson Odds to Win the 2014 Masters with Picks and Predictions
by George Monroy - 3/13/2014
Phil Mickelson, the 43-year-old golfer, is three months away from turning 44 and nearly four years removed from his last Masters win in 2010. Mickelson, one of the game's greatest golfers, has three green jackets tucked away in his closet somewhere-the most of any player not name Jack, Tiger or Arnold-but must look around the golfing landscape and notice the changing of the guard.
The PGA Tour is rich with young, up-and-coming players looking to lead the new generation of golfers. Mickelson must at times, wonder if he still has the desire and energy, to compete with these players. The oddsmakers, however, still believe in old "lefty" as they have placed him as one of the favorites to win the tour's most prestigious event. Let's take a closer look at Mickelson's 2014 Masters odds with picks, analysis and predictions. All odds come from Sportsbook.ag.
Phil Mickelson 2014 Masters Story Lines
For all the talk about the Mickelson and Tiger Woods era of golf coming to an end, both are still among of the game's elite players even if their best days are clearly behind them. Mickelson has had a relatively slow start to the year, playing seven events but not performing well in any of them. The 44 year old has a recent Open Championship victory highlighting his resume and is always a threat to win a major every time he enters one.
By all accounts, the American-born player still has the motivation and desire to compete on the tour. Mickelson is still chasing the elusive career-grand slam and has yet to capture a U.S Open title during his 22 years as a professional. The five-time major winner has six runner-up finishes at the event, with the latest coming during a disappointing loss in 2013.
Mickelson recently stated in various interviews that he is not worried about his slow start to the year and that his only "concern" was to "hit better shots and start to play better" before the start of the 2014 Masters. Lefty plans to take most of March off before playing in the Shell Houston Open a week before heading to Augusta National.
Phil Mickelson 2014 Masters Odds and Key Stats
Mickelson is currently receiving the fifth-best 2014 Masters odds at +2200, according to Sportsbook.ag. The former green jacket winner has already played seven events but does not have any Top-10 finishes to his credit. Mickelson is currently ranked 87th on the PGA Tour's yearly money list with $365,422 made through the first two months of the season.
Mickelson is averaging a 70.8-stroke round and shot a 4-over par during the Cadillac Championships at Doral with individual scores of 74-75-69-74 and missed the cut during the Honda Classic, where he shot a 141 during the first two rounds. Mickelson has two Top-20 finishes with a 16th place in the Cadillac and a 19th in the AT&T Pebble Beach Nation Pro-Am in early February.
Phil Mickelson 2014 Masters Picks and Predictions
Mickelson is on the short list of players with multiple Augusta National wins and always seems to at least be in contention during the event. The golfer loves to play at Augusta National and is receiving excellent value at +2200 odds. Mickelson looks focused on winning another major or two before his illustrious career comes to an end. The veteran golfer still has the skills and know-how to compete for another green jacket title. Wagering on Mickelson to win the 2014 Masters is a solid wager to make as it would not be shocking to see the veteran win another title.
