Jordan Spieth Odds to Win the 2014 Masters with Picks and Predictions
by George Monroy - 3/13/2014
Jordan Spieth has made quite a name for himself, especially since the 20 year old quit school and became a professional, yet he had no official PGA Tour status less than 16 months ago. Spieth turned pro in late 2012 after leaving Texas during the middle of his sophomore season and is now one of the favorites to win the 2014 Masters. The young golfer must still pinch himself every morning just to make sure his whirlwind ride into the upper-echelon of golf is real.
Over the last two seasons Spieth has as many Top-5 tournament finishes as Tiger Woods-they both have a total of seven-and only Dustin Johnson has more with eight. The most impressive part is that Spieth hasn't even completed two full seasons on the tour and matched Woods' recent numbers in only three-fourths of the time. Let's take a closer look at Spieth's 2014 Masters odds with picks, analysis and predictions. All odds come from Sportsbook.ag.
Jordan Spieth 2014 Masters Story Lines
The American-born golfer started the 2013 season ranked 810th in the world after missing the cut in his first PGA event of the year, but he began a meteoric rise a few months later that would end with the him settling into his spot as the 13th-ranked player in the world. He can at times be brilliant on the course, combining power in his drives with finesse on the greens. Spieth, however, has not performed his best during the major tournaments, which is to be expected from a young pro still in the middle of his second year on the tour.
Spieth, who was the PGA's 2013 rookie of the year, did not play in last year's Masters and had two mediocre finishes in both the U.S Open and Open Championship while failing to make the cut in the PGA Championship. The American was also ranked third in the PGA's "all-around ranking" which takes into account scoring, putting, eagles, birdies, driving distance and driving accuracy, among other things. The only players to have a better al-round ranking score in 2013 were Woods and Steve Stricker.
Jordan Spieth 2014 Masters Odds and Key Stats
Spieth is currently receiving the sixth-best 2014 Masters odds at +2500, according to Sportsbook.ag. The young golfer has played in eight events in 2014 and is putting in volume before the Masters in a few weeks. He has three Top-10 finishes and is ranked 12th on the PGA Tour's yearly money list with $1,597,755 in earnings and is shooting an average of 70.2 strokes per round.
Spieth's best finish was a second-place at the Hyundai Tournament of Champions where he shot 18-under par with individual scores of 66-70-69-69 and took home $655,000 for his efforts. The golfer finished in 34th place during the Cadillac Championship, shooting a 6-over par with individual scores of 73-79-73-69.
Jordan Spieth 2014 Masters Picks and Predictions
Spieth is an excellent golfer with a world of potential, but the young American has yet to perform his best at the majors, and it might be unrealistic, and perhaps unfair, to expect the 20 year old to win, or even perform well, during this year's Masters. Spieth is set to be one of the golf's next big stars, but the pressure of playing in his first Masters along side the game's greats will probably be too much for the young player to handle.
The odds are solid for Spieth at +2500, but the 2014 Masters will probably not be his time to shine. Wagering on the player will be nothing more than a shot in the dark. However, keep an eye out for the young American, because his time in the spotlight will come soon enough.
