Georgia Bulldogs Odds to Win the 2015 College Football National Championship
by George Monroy - 7/17/2014
2013 was a year of disappointment and underachieving for the Georgia Bulldogs. The team faced multiple injuries and a few suspensions to many of its key players throughout the year and was never able to gain any traction on its way to a subpar 8-5 record with a bowl game loss. The Bulldogs still have a ways to go before they can be called a legitimate threat to win the 2015 national title, but they will be considerably better entering the new season simply because of health reasons alone.
Georgia's spectacular running back, Todd Gurley, will be returning to the team healthy and ready add another 1,000-yard rushing season to his already-impressive resume. Gurley is in the running for the 2014 Heisman award and could very well win it as the centerpiece of a strong Bulldogs offense. Let's take a closer look at Georgia's 2015 national title odds with picks, predictions and analysis.
Georgia Odds to Win the 2015 National Championship Story Lines
Georgia lost quarterback Aaron Murray to the NFL over the offseason, and while that void will clearly affect the team, Gurley still remains the workhorse of the offense. The team will be returning two senior wide receivers and starting redshirt junior Hutson Mason at the quarterback position. Georgia has excellent talent on offense and will only need Mason to manage games throughout the season. If the junior can grow into the quarterback role, however, the team could become a legitimate national title threat.
Georgia's biggest issues during the 2014 season will be on the defensive end of the ball. Last year the squad allowed 29 points per game and struggled to defend against the pass. This year the team will be adding a new defensive coordinator and will be looking to replace three starters from an already-weak secondary.
The Bulldogs open up the year on Aug. 30 with a home game against Clemson and will be forced to show how good they really are one game into the season. The team will also host matchups against Tennessee, Vanderbilt, Auburn and Georgia Tech. The SEC is always a tough conference to play in schedule-wise, and Georgia will be challenged by a quality squad nearly every week.
Georgia 2015 National Championship Odds and Trends
Georgia is receiving Top 10 2015 national title odds at +1800, according to the numbers Sportsbook.ag. Gurley is also receiving the fourth-best Heisman trophy odds at +900 and could be a major player for the award late in the season. The star running back will probably have to carry much of the offensive load for Georgia and could be a solid bet to win the award.
Georgia was horrendous against the spread last season and produced a measly 3-9-1 record. The team, however, did end the year with a 9-4 totals record, while going "over" in five of seven home games. That poor ATS mark can be excused because of the Bulldogs' injury and suspension issues during the year. Expect them to cover far more spreads in 2014.
George Odds to Win the 2015 National Championship Predictions
Georgia has talent on offense and looks to be fully healthy heading into the 2014 season. The question is whether or not that will be enough to win a tough SEC with both Alabama and Auburn shooting for a national title of their own. The Bulldogs should continue to be a high-scoring team and improve their ATS record this season. If their junior quarterback and gain some traction and learn the system relatively fast then Georgia could be a scary team in the conference. However, unless that happens do not expect George to win the SEC or be invited to the national title playoff.
