Bubba Watson Odds to Win the 2014 Masters with Picks and Predictions
by George Monroy - 3/25/2014
Bubba Watson may be getting that eerie feeling of déjà vu heading into the 2014 Masters. The former green jacket winner is coming off a second-place finish at the Cadillac Championship in early March-the same event he earned a runner-up finish in 2012 before winning his first and only major less than a month later. The 35-year-old pro is probably hoping that the stars are beginning to align after a tough end of 2012 and 2013 seasons.
Heading into 2014, Watson had not won a PGA tournament event since his thrilling, sudden-death playoff victory at the Masters nearly two years earlier. The American-born golfer, however, started his 13th season on the PGA Tour with a win and two second-place finishes through his first eight events of the year. Let's take a closer look at Watson's 2014 Masters' odds with picks, analysis and predictions.
Bubba Watson 2014 Masters Story Lines
Watson recently withdrew from the Arnold Palmer Invitational after posting a first-round score of 83. The golfer was 21 shots behind tournament leader, Adam Scott, after only 18 holes of play and posted a round that included a six-over-par sixth hole and a triple bogey during the final hole of the day.
Watson later mentioned on Twitter that allergies were the main culprit behind his poor play, stating that "its hard to focus" and play well with your head "discombobulated from medicine and pollen". The golfer has a history with allergies and previously mentioned that he will not play certain tournaments because the conditions will cause his allergy aliments to flare up and affect his game.
Despite that small setback, Watson has looked great over the early part of 2014 and played fantastic during his first tournament win in two years at the Northern Trust Open in mid-February. The PGA pro went 39 holes without a bogey and finished the tournament with the lowest round by the eventual winner in the event's 28-year history.
Bubba Watson 2014 Masters Odds and Key Stats
Watson is receiving the eight-best 2014 Masters' odds at +3000, according to Sportsbook.ag. The golfer has five Top-10 finishes in eight events played this year and is ranked fourth on the PGA Tour's 2014 money list with $2,913,007 in earnings through the first three months of the season.
Watson is ranked first amongst PGA golfers in driving distance with 318.6 yards per drive. The golfer is also ranked sixth in eagles per hole, 16th in birdies per round and is currently averaging 70 stokes per round. Watson shot a 3-under par during his last event-the Cadillac Championship-with individual rounds of 73-72-72-68.
Bubba Watson 2014 Masters Picks and Predictions
Watson's first quarter of 2014 is setting up to be very similar to his first quarter of 2012-multiple Top-5 finishes and a second at the Cadillac Championship-all he needs now is to cap it off with his second win at Augusta National by earning another green jacket to add to his list of accomplishments.
The fact that it took Watson almost two years to win another tournament after his Masters victory is a bit concerning. The golfer does have some value at +3000, and he has been playing well, but there are far better situations to wager on with players who have been far more consistent. Unfortunately, the 2014 Masters will not be Watson's year to add another major to his resume.
