Back to the Futures: 2014 NFL Schedule is Out
by Ricky Dimon - 4/24/2014
"Win, win, win, possible loss, win, win, win, win…." That's how most sports fans are spending their Thursday after the 2014 NFL schedule was released on
Wednesday evening. Sportsbooks also wasted no time putting out the lines for Week 1, which
features plenty of intriguing showdowns-including Peyton Manning vs. the Colts.
Odds provided by Sportsbook.ag
Week 1 NFL lines
Packers +6 at Seahawks
- Green Bay and defending champion Seattle will kick off next season's festivities in the Thursday night game. The Seahawks lost only one game at home last
year but showed some surprising vulnerability at CenturyLink Field late in their run to the Super Bowl.
Saints +1 at Falcons
- The four NFC South teams are facing each other right away in Week 1, with New Orleans visiting Atlanta and Carolina traveling to Tampa Bay. The Saints
swept their biggest rivals last season, but both games were extremely competitive, and it's hard to imagine the Falcons being that bad again in 2014.
Colts +7.5 at Broncos
- Manning will have another go at his former team, this time at home. The Broncos were undefeated when Manning paid a visit to Indianapolis in Week 7 of
last season, and the Colts pulled off a 39-33 upset. This will, of course, be Denver's first game since the Super Bowl humiliation.
Giants +3.5 at Lions
- The first of the two season-opening "Monday Night Football" games will send the Giants to Detroit. Both teams were spectacular disappointments in 2013,
so they will be eager to start off on the right foot this time around. NYG won at Detroit in overtime in Week 16 of last season.
NBA series prices
Nets -185 over Raptors
- Nets-Raptors is the most competitive matchup by a decent margin, according to Las Vegas. Toronto lost 94-87 at home last Saturday but bounced back for a
100-95 victory on Tuesday. Toronto is looking for its second series win in the 19th year of the franchise.
Thunder -300 over Grizzlies
- Not too surprisingly, Oklahoma City vs. Memphis has become the cream of the crop among the eight first-round series. Two intense, high-quality affairs
saw the host Thunder pull away 100-86 in Game 1 before Memphis survived a 111-105 overtime thriller on Monday.
Pacers -300 over Hawks
- It could have been worse for slumping Indiana, but trading blowouts at home with a No. 8 seed is probably not what any No. 1 seed has ever had in mind.
The Pacers at least looked pretty good on Tuesday, but they have still lost 10 of their last 17 games.
Clippers -310 over Warriors
- The Warriors have still seized home-court advantage thanks to their Game 1 victory, but a 40-point loss is a 40-point loss. That's what happened to
Golden State in Game 2, so it can't be feeling too good about itself.
UEFA Champions League
Real Madrid (+187)
- Real is looking for a record 10th Champions League title, but it has not triumphed since 2002. The club, which won the Copa Del Rey last week even
without an injured Ronaldo, took care of business in its semifinal opener with a 1-0 victory over Bayern Munich on Wednesday. Bayern will host the second
leg next Tuesday.
Bayern Munich (+200)
- The defending champions failed to notch any away goals in the first leg, so they need to win the second contest by either 2+ goals or 1-0 (and then win
in overtime or a shootout) to prevail on aggregate. Bayern has not been dominant at home of late as it got blown out 3-0 by visiting Borussia Dortmund on
April 12 in the Bundesliga.
Atletico Madrid (+400)
- The less-heralded Madrid squad is bidding for its first UCL title and its second-ever final (first since 1974). Atletico battled visiting Chelsea to a
0-0 tie on Tuesday, so it will advance with any kind of win or a tie involving any goals being scored in the second leg. Chelsea will host the semifinal
finale next Wednesday.
Chelsea (+450)
- Chelsea did not do itself many favors on Tuesday, especially by failing to notch any away goals. The Blues have not been in great form since blasting
Arsenal 6-0 in Premier League action on March 22, although they managed to score a thrilling comeback win over Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League
quarterfinals.
Johnny Manziel NFL Draft position
No. 4 overall (+350)
- Better late than never for the Browns, who skipped Manziel's pro day, but they worked him out last Saturday and continue to have what seems like genuine
interest. Of course, the former Texas A&M star would first have to slip past Houston (or whichever team ends up selecting No. 1), St. Louis, and
Jacksonville.
No. 1 overall (+400)
- Reports out of Houston suggest the Texans are now more interested in outside linebacker Khalil Mack than they are in Jadeveon Clowney. If true, Houston
trading the No. 1 pick to a team craving Manziel becomes more of a possibility. Or it could mean Houston is more willing to roll with Manziel outright.
No. 3 overall (+450)
- Mock drafts are all over the place with the Jaguars, which is no surprise given how bad they have been and how many needs they have. Jacksonville
obviously covets a quarterback of the present and future, but Blake Bortles is also a possibility. The woeful franchise could also use either Clowney or
Mack.
No. 5 overall (+650)
- Ah, the Raiders. They traded one former college standout who was lethal with his feet (Terrelle Pryor) to Seattle on Monday. Will they bring in another,
much more heralded polarizing college QB of a similar playing style? If Manziel is still there at No. 5, he would be tough to pass up. He fits Oakland's
needs for a quarterback and for making a splash.
