Weekly Q&A with Doc's Sports Expert Handicapper Vegas Sports Informer
by Doc's Sports - 7/23/2013
For well over four decades, Doc’s Sports Service has been considered the premier selection company in the sports gaming industry for our ability to provide a steady stream of winners for all the major sports to our loyal customers. Part of our ongoing success is tied into the use of a Unit Betting System as a valuable money management tool. However, the main reason we have remained at the top of our game in a very competitive industry is our association with the best sports handicappers in the business. One of the most innovative handicappers we have had the pleasure to work with over the past five years has been the Vegas Sports Informer. He has been able to carve out a unique niche by combining his top-notch handicapping skills with the competitive edge that comes from spending the last 15 years behind the counter of one of the biggest sportsbooks in Las Vegas. This combination has created an insider’s edge that has led to a successful track record of winning selections in a wide array of sports.
Awhile back, Doc’s Sports decided to tap into this winning edge by sitting down with The Informer on a weekly basis to gain insight into some of the hottest trending topics in the sports gaming industry today. As a result of these discussions we have been able to provide our readers with a first-hand, behind-the-scenes glimpse of what is really going in the Las Vegas books. The following is this week’s interview with The Vegas Sports Informer.
Doc’s Sports: It is now clear which MLB teams are the contenders and which ones are pretenders as the regular season begins the stretch run to the playoffs. Does this impact your handicapping strategy when breaking down the games?
VSI: This is the time of the year when you really have to do your homework if you are going to bet on baseball. Player moves as well as division title races become a huge factor when breaking down matchups. While you may be tempted to go against the sellers in the league, you have to be careful as sometimes these teams actually start winning games they should not behind the younger players they brought up to take a traded star’s place.
Doc’s Sports: Florida State and Clemson are the two front-runners to win this season’s ACC football title according to most futures odds at the bigger Las Vegas books, but are there any other teams that have caught you eye as far as having a shot at winning this conference?
VSI: You may get a bit of noise out of Miami and North Carolina in the Coastal Division, but the Seminoles and Tigers are definitely the class of the ACC this season. Circle Oct. 19 on your calendar if you are an ACC fan as that is when Clemson hosts Florida State. This game that should once again determine which team goes on to the win the conference title just like it did last season.
Doc’s Sports: The Denver Broncos’ defense could have a major hole in it for the first four games of the regular season if linebacker Von Miller’s suspension is upheld. Will this situation have enough impact to make it favorable to go against Denver in its first few games?
VSI:The loss of Miller is not enough for me to go against Denver right out of the gate. The Broncos still have the ability to put up some big numbers on offense to make up for an extra score here and there. If anything, you may want to take a hard look at the “over” in the first couple of Broncos’ games, especially in Week 2 on the road against the New York Giants.
Doc’s Sports: Everyone knows you are big WNBA fan, and I am sure you have been cashing in on the Chicago Sky’s early success. Is this still the team to ride all season long in this league?
VSI: The addition of Elena Delle Donne has made the Sky a legitimate contender in the East, but when you also add in the play of rookies’ Brittany Griner and Skylar Diggins, the entire WNBA has been able to raise its game this season. Atlanta is another team to watch in the East, and look for Minnesota or Los Angeles to come out of the West, but I am sticking with Chicago to still win it all.
Doc’s Sports: You had mentioned that you have been busy doing some side work covering Del Mar racetrack for their summer session. Are there any major stakes races coming up at the track that the betting public should be aware of?
VSI: While the $1 million Grade 1 Pacific Classic on Aug. 25 is Del Mar’s biggest race of the year, the daily money pools and high exacta/trifecta pots is what makes this track so attractive to West Coast bettors. Horse racing on the turf in summertime at Del Mar could be compared to going to a track like Saratoga in upstate New York on the East Coast.
