Weekly Q&A with Doc's Sports Expert Handicapper Vegas Sports Informer
by Doc's Sports - 7/30/2013
Doc’s Sports Service continues to lead the way in the sports selection industry, backed by the experience of over four decades of providing our loyal customers with a steady stream of winning picks for all the major sports. We attribute a great deal of that success to the use of a Unit Betting System that has proven to be a valuable money management tool when wagering on sports. However, another big reason we have remained at the top of a very competitive industry is our ongoing relationship with some of the best sports handicappers in the business. The Vegas Sports Informer has been one of those shining stars for well over five years with his unique ability to combine top-notch handicapping skills with the competitive edge that comes from spending the last 15 years behind the counter of one of the biggest sportsbooks in Las Vegas. The Informer’s insider’s edge is then incorporated into all his selections, which has produced a winning track record in a wide array of sports.
Doc’s Sports has been able to tap into this winning edge through a series of weekly discussions with The Insider to gain insight into some of the hottest trending topics in the sports gaming industry today. This, in-turn, provides our readers with a first-hand, behind-the-scenes glimpse of what is really going in the Las Vegas books. The following is this week’s interview with The Vegas Sports Informer.
Doc’s Sports: As we enter the calm before the storm of another football season, other than Major League Baseball, are there any other sports out there attracting any action from the betting public?
VSI:Last weekend most of the books in town drew quite a bit of action for the Gold Cup Finals with the USA in the mix. This time of year they also bring in the horse crowd with racing at Del Mar. The key to bringing action in during one of the slowest times of the year is to heavily promote whatever is going on in the world of sports.
Doc’s Sports: Last week we talked about Florida State and Clemson being the cream of the crop in the ACC. Along with Ohio State, which are your ‘teams to watch’ in the Big Ten title chase this season?
VSI: The Buckeyes are definitely the class of the Big Ten heading into this season with Michigan earning an honorable mention, but my two teams to watch are Northwestern and Indiana. The Wildcats have a legitimate shot at making a run at the conference title, and the Hoosiers are actually good enough to work themselves into a bowl game this year.
Doc’s Sports: The NFL Preseason gets underway with this Sunday’s Hall of Fame Game in Canton that features two very intriguing teams in Dallas and Miami. What is your take on the Cowboys and the Dolphins heading into this season?
VSI: I do not see Dallas getting to the NFC Championship Game, but I do have the Cowboys winning the East and a playoff game this year. The Dolphins are my sleeper team in the AFC East to take advantage of all the off-field turmoil in New England. It’s a bold play, but I am taking Miami to actually win that division this year.
Doc’s Sports: The Atlanta Braves starting rotation took a serious hit last week when Tim Hudson was lost for the season with a broken ankle. Does this injury clear the path for a Dodgers vs. Cardinals showdown in the NLCS this season?
VSI: This was definitely a big loss, but do not be surprised to see the Braves pick up an extra arm before the trade deadline. They basically have the NL East locked up and should start getting healthy in other areas as the playoffs roll around. I do like the Dodgers chances to make it to the NLCS out of the West, but I am not even ready to concede the NL Central to St. Louis just yet.
Doc’s Sports: We all know what a big boxing fan you are. While the excitement in Las Vegas has to be slowly building for this September’s Floyd Mayweather vs. Canelo Alvarez fight, are there any other big bouts coming up that you are looking forward to?
VSI: I personally am looking forward to this Saturday’s heavyweight bout between Tomasz Adamek and Dominick Quinn, but it should draw little interest from the betting public. After the Mayweather fight, the next big bout pits Timothy Bradley Jr. against Juan Manual Marquez for Bradley’s WBO welterweight title in October. The following month Manny Pacquiao is set to fight Brandon Rios.
