Weekly Q&A with Doc's Sports Expert Handicapper Vegas Sports Informer
by Doc's Sports - 6/18/2013
Doc’s Sports Service has been able to remain at the top of our game in the sports selection industry for well over 40 years because of the ability to provide our loyal customers with a steady stream of winning picks for all the major sports. One of the key contributors to this ongoing success has been the use of a Unit Betting System as a valuable money management tool. The other is surrounding ourselves with some of the best sports handicappers in the business. One of our best performers for the last five years has been the Vegas Sports Informer. He has risen up the ranks of this select group through the ability to combine top-notch handicapping skills with the competitive edge that comes from spending the last 15 years behind the counter of one of the biggest sportsbooks in Las Vegas. The Informer then incorporates this insider’s edge into all of his selections. The results speak for themselves with a winning track record for a wide arena of sporting events
Awhile back, Doc’s Sports decided to tap into this edge through a series of weekly discussions with The Informer to get his insight into some of the hottest trending topics in the sports gaming industry today. The result has been a first-hand, behind-the-scenes glimpse of what is really going in the Las Vegas books. The following is this week’s interview with The Vegas Sports Informer.
Doc’s Sports: Most bettors have to be somewhat shocked with San Antonio’s 3-2 edge over Miami in this season’s NBA Finals heading into Tuesday night’s Game 6 considering that the Spurs were heavy underdogs when this series first began. Your original prediction was the Heat in six or seven games. Do you still see them winning the final two games at home to claim their second-straight NBA title?
VSI:I have Miami winning Game 6 on Tuesday night to force a Game 7 this upcoming Thursday, but since neither team has been able to win back-to-back contests in this series, I am not 100 percent sold on Miami winning it all. I am still leaning that way, but this final showdown could be too close to call.
Doc’s Sports: The NHL Stanley Cup Finals between Chicago and Boston is another series that appears destined to go the distance. What are your current thoughts on this matchup after the Bruins 2-0 victory in Monday night’s Game 3 to grab the early 2-1 edge?
VSI: The wildcard in any NHL Playoff series is a hot goalie, but this fact gets magnified when it comes to the Stanley Cup Finals. Boston’s Tuukka Rask is in a zone right now that should continue to carry through this entire series. I had the Blackhawks in six before the series started, but right now I see the Bruins coming out on top in the same number of games.
Doc’s Sports: One of your favorite sports to handicap is the WNBA. Do you have any insider betting tips for anyone interested in wagering on this league based on some of the early-season results?
VSI: The one thing that makes the WNBA easier to handicap more so than some other sports is continuity in the betting trends. Teams that get hot against the spread, tend to stay hot for longer periods of time. A good offensive team and/or a poor defensive team are great for playing the “over” on the total line. This certain level of predictability is what attracted me to the league in the first place.
Doc’s Sports: The Canadian Football League’s regular season gets underway next week. Do you have any thoughts as to which team you see winning this year’s Grey Cup after Toronto shocked the betting public with last year’s run to the CFL title?
VSI: When I first started handicapping sports, very few books in Las Vegas did anything with the CFL, so this league was never really on my radar. Most of the major casino books offer a much better variety of lines for the CFL now, but it has yet to really catch on. As with any football game, a great quarterback is always good reason to bet on a particular team. Given the larger size of the Canadian playing field, also look for teams with a solid defensive secondary, such as British Columbia, to do well.
Doc’s Sports: The MLB regular season has just hit the 70-game mark. Boston and Oakland have been two of the biggest surprises in the American League with St. Louis and Atlanta leading the way in the National League. Do you see these four teams holding down the top spots all season long or is there a team or two waiting in the wings getting ready to make a run?
VSI: Boston will still have its hands full in the highly-competitive AL East with Baltimore and New York, but I see Oakland holding the top spot in the West all season long. St. Louis is getting it done with smoke and mirrors right now, and that is extremely hard to do over the course of 90 more games. I like both Pittsburgh and Cincinnati to make a move to the top in the NL Central. Atlanta should cruise to the NL East title given the current form of Washington and Philadelphia, to a lesser extent.
