The Informer uses this unique insider’s edge to make all of his selections, and the results speak for themselves with a track record of winning picks in a wide selection of sporting events
Doc’s Sports has been tapping into this edge through a series of weekly discussions with The Informer, covering some of the hottest trending topics in the sports gaming industry today. Our goal is to give our readers a first-hand, behind-the-scenes glimpse of what is really going in the Las Vegas books as well as tap into this valuable insight from an insider’s perspective. The following is this week’s interview with The Vegas Sports Informer.
Doc’s Sports: With both the NBA and the NHL working their way towards the championship series for each sport, how busy was the action on the games in the Las Vegas sportsbooks over this extended holiday weekend?
VSI: There was very little interest in the Spurs vs. Grizzlies series, especially when it became apparent that it was going to be a one-sided affair. The Pacers vs. Heat series picked up steam with Indiana’s surprise victory on the road. The interesting thing about the NHL playoffs is that the games themselves draw big crowds at the casino sportsbooks, but there is very little action from anyone actually betting on the outcome.
Doc’s Sports: Speaking of how Indiana stunned the betting public with its upset of the Heat in Game 2 of the NBA Eastern Conference Finals, was that victory just a fluke or can the Pacers take this series the distance?
VSI: The whole key to this series to me is the first half of Tuesday night’s Game 4. If the Pacers can get back to playing defense like they did in the first two games, they should be able to extend this series to six or seven games. If Indiana gets torched for another 70 points by halftime, this series is over in five.
Doc’s Sports: San Antonio made really short work of Memphis in the Western Conference Finals with a four-game sweep. Assuming that Miami eventually gets past the Pacers, do you see the defending champs having their hands full against the Spurs in the NBA Finals?
VSI: All eyes will be on Tony Parker and Tim Duncan to see if these long-time NBA veterans have enough gas left for a title run, but the two Spurs that could have the biggest impact on the eventual outcome would be Kawhi Leonard and Tiago Splitter. If they can both play at a high level to neutralize some of Miami’s strengths, San Antonio has a shot to win.
Doc’s Sports: It’s a nail-biter in both of the NHL’s Western Conference Semifinals with two Game 7s on the slate this week. Turning to the Detroit vs. Chicago series, do you see the Blackhawks completing the comeback with a victory on Wednesday night after falling into that unexpected 3-1 hole?
VSI: There is no doubt that all the momentum in the world is with Chicago playing this game at home as a -220 favorite, but my top play in this one is Detroit +1.5 on the puck line. This is going to be a one-goal contest either way.
Doc’s Sports: You had mentioned that one of your favorite leagues to handicap is the WNBA, which started its regular season this past weekend. Which team is your favorite to win it all this year, and which team remains a sleeper to wager on over the course of the year?
VSI: My favorite to win it all this season would probably be Minnesota after making it to the finals the past two seasons. My sleeper team in the East would definitely be Chicago with the addition of Delaware’s Elena Delle Donne, who I think will have a bigger overall impact as a rookie than Brittney Griner. My sleeper team from the West would be Los Angeles, who should be much better than advertised.
