by Doc's Sports - 6/11/2013
For well over four decades, Doc’s Sports Service has established itself as the premier selection company in the sports gaming industry for the ability to provide our loyal customers with a steady stream of winners for all the major sports. The secret to our success is the use of a Unit Betting System as a valuable money management tool in conjunction with selections from some of the best sports handicappers in the business. The Vegas Sports Informer has risen up the ranks of this select group over the past five years through his ability to combine top-notch handicapping skills with the competitive edge that comes from spending the last 15 years behind the counter of one of the biggest sportsbooks in Las Vegas. This unique combination has, in turn, created an insider’s edge that has produced a track record of winning picks in a wide arena of sporting events
In order to tap into this insider’s edge, Doc’s Sports started a weekly dialog with The Informer to get his insight into some of the hottest trending topics in the sports gaming industry today. The result has been a first-hand, behind-the-scenes glimpse of what is really going in the Las Vegas books. The following is this week’s interview with The Vegas Sports Informer.
Doc’s Sports: As previously discussed, the Las Vegas books cleaned-up when Indiana beat Miami straight up as a two-point home underdog in Game 6 of the Eastern Conference Finals a few Saturday’s ago. How did they fare this past Sunday with the Heats’ 19-point rout of San Antonio as five-point home favorites in Game 2 of the NBA Finals?
VSI:The betting public was all over Miami in that game, especially on the money line, which was where the books took their biggest losses. The only thing that saved things from being a total wipeout was the game staying “under” the total.
Doc’s Sports: Staying with the NBA Finals, you liked Miami in six or seven games before the series started. Has anything changed your mind on this pick after the first two games?
VSI:I would still stick with my original thought of Miami in six. The Heats’ defense successfully put the clamps on San Antonio in Game 2, so you can expect more of the same over the remainder of this series, especially in the fourth quarter. The real key to how long this thing goes is not the next game but the outcome of Thursday night’s Game 4.
Doc’s Sports: We have been talking about your Chicago Blackhawks all season long. Now that they are in position to bring home their second Stanley Cup title in four years, will they get it done against a very hot Boston Bruins team?
VSI: Chicago presents a whole new set of challenges to Boston, especially with Corey Crawford playing so well in goal. The way the Blackhawks not only came back against Detroit but the way they finished off the Kings in five games has me thinking that they win this series in six games. While, for the most part, home ice is not a huge advantage in the NHL, it is for Chicago.
Doc’s Sports: Professional golf’s second major of the year gets underway this week with the US Open at Merion Golf Club outside Philadelphia. Do you have any thoughts on which player to bet on this week, and how much action does an event like this generate for the Las Vegas books?
VSI:Any of the four Majors will draw some extra action for all of the books. The most popular bets are on head-to-head matchups for each round, but most of the casinos will readjust the odds to win after each day, which is also good for attracting some additional bets. As far as picking a winner, I would look at the field for someone starting at 20/1 or higher. This is a short course, and that fact alone opens things up for a number of different longshots to pull off the upset this week.
Doc’s Sports: As a huge boxing fan, you have to be really excited about this September’s Floyd Mayweather vs. Canelo Alvarez fight at the MGM Grand in your backyard. Do you have any early predictions for this bout?
VSI: All the early money is going to Mayweather as a prohibitive favorite, but right now I really like Alvarez at anywhere from a +210 to +230 underdog. If the fight wears on to the later rounds, then the advantage is clearly with Mayweather, but I like Alvarez’s punching power to do some serious damage early in the fight that could make things much shorter than expected.
