Weekly Sports Betting Hot/Cold List
by Nolan Sinclair - Strike Point Sports - 11/2/2011
The weather outside is starting to get frightful. And it is just about this time every year that I remember why I moved away from the Northeast (spending the week without power) and moved down South (spending the week in shorts each afternoon).
But fear not, frozen football fans, we have another edition of Doc’s Sports Hot-Cold List, and here it is:
Cold List:
10. Miami Dolphins –They have to be on this list until they do something productive. Miami is 1-5-1 ATS this season and just continues to find creative ways to blow games and give away late leads.
9. Early Season Snow – I was born and raised in Watertown, NY, and there is nothing I hate more than that first fall snow. Of course, in that tundra I guess you can argue when fall stops and winter begins. Mother Nature is a whore.
8. The NFC West – The combined record of the NFC West is 10-18 straight up. If you take the 49ers out of the West, the combined record of the other three is a viciously poor 4-17 S.U. On the bright side, the West is 13-13-2 ATS, so they aren’t totally and utterly worthless.
7. LSU-Alabama hype – Enough already. We know it is a big game. But it isn’t going to decide who wins the SEC, who wins the National Championship, or anything more than who is the best team RIGHT NOW in the league. What happens if LSU wins, but loses to Arkansas? Or what if one of these teams gets upset in the conference title game?
6. The New Mexico Rush Defense – The Lobos rush defense is hilarious. I just can’t come up with a better adjective to describe this team when they see an opposing ball carrier. New Mexico is giving up a stout 260 yards per game on the ground. There are 99 teams in college that give up less than that in the air. Wow!
5.Philip Rivers – Phil has one game this season with a QB rating better than 100 and he has thrown nine interceptions in six games. At the start of the season when everyone and their mother were predicting big things for the Chargers I predicted that they would struggle and that they won’t win 10 games. We will see who is right.
4. Chris Johnson – How much do you hate this guy if you are a Titans fan, or if you drafted him in your fantasy draft? Ouch! It isn’t just the pathetic running. He is dropping passes, missing blocks and committing penalties. He is awful.
3. Away Teams in the NCAA – If you are a money line better stay far, far away from away teams. When college teams hit the road they typically don’t come home with smiles on their faces. Road teams are just 180-357 SU on the season.
2. Tim Tebow –Part of me actually feels bad for this guy. He just isn’t ready for the NFL, but he doesn’t deserve all of this hatred. To all those that mock him: Karma is a bitch. You better start Tebowing!
1. The Detroit Lions Bad Boy Image –“Oh look at me, I think I am the Detroit Pistons. We come from a city that is toughas nails and nitty-gritty. The whole world is against us and now we are a force in the NFL.” Or something. The Lions have only three wins versus teams with a winning record (Chicago, Kansas City and Tampa Bay are all 4-3). Call me on Dec. 5 after the Lions get the Packers and Saints back-to-back.
Hot List:
10. Pittsburgh Steelers Defense – They were supposed to be old and tired. They were supposed to get torched by Brady. They were supposed to finish behind the Ravens in the AFC North. They told all of their critics to kiss their ass on Sunday.
9. Pentatonix – Does anyone out there watch “The Sing Off”? Well, see what had happened was, my wife was watching it, and I happened to pass by the living room, and, and, and…Ah, Damn it, I am hooked, and this group is unreal. Check them out.
8. Cincinnati Bengals – The Bengals are a rock solid 5-2 SU, and both 6-1 ATS and versus the total. Why everyone of us isn’t lined up at the book prior to a Bengals game just baffles me.
7. “It’s a Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown” – Just gotta love this movie. Doesn’t matter your age, it is an all-time classic.
6. National Basketball Association – The rumor is that the NBA is going to not only save their season, but also have an 82-game schedule at that. Stay tuned.
5. Kansas City Chiefs – The Chiefs were left for dead after losing their first two games of the season, which included an absolute drubbing at the hands of the Buffalo Bills. Since that game the Chiefs are 3-1 S.U and 4-0 ATS. A three-point loss to the Chargers is the only black mark on their resume since Sept. 25.
4. Green Bay Packers Passing Game – The Packers are averaging 323.4 passing yards per game and are leading the NFL in points scored at 32.9 points per game. Green Bay is currently just 4-3 versus the total due to the fact that they are ninth in the league in points against.
3. Home Favorites – The home chalk is doing a solid job this NFL season, covering the line at a nearly profitable 54-percent clip. That may not seem impressive, but when you account for the fact that the oddsmakers always pad the lines on the home team it is significant.
2. Philadelphia Eagles (when Vick doesn’t turn it over) – When Mike Vick doesn’t hand the ball to the opposing defenders this team definitely has the capabilities to be the “dream team.” That is a huge “if,” however. Any of us that have watched Vick over the years know that he struggles to win the big game. Could this be the year?
