Team-by-Team NFL Draft Grades
by Robert Ferringo - 4/26/2010
The NFL Draft is in the books and there were, as always, plenty of successes and failures. As always, we won't be able to accurately assess how each organization managed until about three or four years from now, but based on value, addressing need, and overall talent hauled in I have put together my 2010 NFL Draft grades.

NFL Draft First Round Draft Grades
by Robert Ferringo - 4/23/2010
Despite all of the bobbleheads going berserk on Friday recapping the "winners" and "losers" of the NFL Draft's first round we still have six rounds to go. There is no way to fully evaluate each team's draft because there are still so many significant picks to be made, which may or may not address specific team needs. I actually feel like Day 2 - the second and third rounds - are more important than the first round because that's when teams have historically gotten the best value.

Jimmy Clausen in Round 2 of the NFL Draft
by Trevor Whenham - 4/23/2010
Is it wrong that my favorite part of the NFL Draft on Thursday night, by a whole lot, was watching Jimmy Clausen not get picked? I really hate Notre Dame, so that has a lot to do with it, but there's more to it than that. I've seen Clausen play enough over the last three years that I'm not a believer in his potential as an NFL quarterback.

NFL Draft Projections: The Quarterbacks
by Alan Matthews - 4/22/2010
In the first NFL Draft betting story here on Doc's, I focused on some unique first-round props that Bodog offers among its dozens of draft propositions. Today let's look at the quarterback betting options on the site and offer our NFL Draft projections.

2010 NFL Mock Draft
by Robert Ferringo - 4/21/2010
We are just one day away from one of the most over-hyped, overblown moments in sports: the first round of the NFL Draft. And adding fuel to the hype brushfire this year is the fact that ESPN, in all its self-importance, and the NFL Network will be broadcasting in prime time.

NFL Draft Predictions: First Round Props
by Alan Matthews - 4/21/2010
I will take a look at the quarterback position on its own for an NFL draft betting story also here at Doc's, but today let's look at a few of the first-round prop odds available on Bodog - and the site has dozens of draft props available. Of course the draft starts Thursday in prime-time this year, so if you are planning to get those bets down don't wait much longer.

NFL Draft: Potential First Round Trades
by Trevor Whenham - 4/21/2010
Trades in the first round of the NFL Draft have always been an intriguing part of the day. The league has been in a trading frenzy recently, so it's possible that there will be even more trades in the first round than normal. There are a lot of teams that could conceivably look to move up or down, and that leads to an intriguing few days between now and the Draft. Here's a look at some of the more interesting potential trades, and the impact those deals would have.

Teams Needing a Strong NFL Draft
by Trevor Whenham - 4/21/2010
The NFL Draft is obviously crucial for every NFL team - it's the best source of high-level talent at a (sometimes) reasonable price that there is. Teams that don't have good drafts can't be continuously rebuilding and filling holes, and teams that don't do that can't be competitive. For some teams, though, the draft holds an extra sense of urgency. Whether a team has been down for too long and needs to find a way back up, or a team needs to fight to stay at the top, there are teams that really need to have an especially strong draft this year. Here are four such teams:

NFL Draft: Potential Second-Day Steals
by Trevor Whenham - 4/21/2010
Thanks to the new, overly long three-day format of the NFL Draft, the second day is made up of just the second and third round. We've heard all sorts of talk about how this is one of the deepest drafts we have seen in years, so it only makes sense that there is going to be exceptional players available on the new second day of the draft.

NFL Draft "Don'ts"
by Robert Ferringo - 4/20/2010
"Don't do it man." We've all been there. Whether it's advising your hammered homeboy not to rail some sloppy sweat-dumpster at the end of some dank townie bar or trying to talk your college roommate out of doubling down on a Norv Turner team in the playoffs, we've all uttered the same desperate, but sage, advice: "Don't do it man."

NFL Draft - Quarterbacks as No. 1 Picks
by Robert Ferringo - 4/16/2010
While the NFL Draft is one of the biggest gambles in sports I will say that it isn't rocket science. And over the past 20 years the modern draft has given front office folk a pretty steady blueprint of what you should and shouldn't do with your first round picks. Despite this fact, teams repeatedly ignore those signs, symbols, blueprints, tarot readings, and previous cautionary tales, passing by the rotting corpses of past first round failures on their way to the guillotine.

Jimmy Clausen in the NFL Draft
by Trevor Whenham - 4/16/2010
It's only fair since I am writing an article about Jimmy Clausen and his NFL Draft prospects to be up front about one thing - I am the furthest thing from a Jimmy Clausen fan. I'm underwhelmed by his arm, I think he crumbles under pressure, and I think that he's obnoxiously cocky. He's every bit the product of being developed under Charlie Weis, and that's the furthest thing from a compliment in my eyes.

Potential NFL Draft Busts
by Trevor Whenham - 4/14/2010
People are fascinated by NFL Draft busts just like they are fascinated by car wrecks - you just can't look away from the carnage. All you have to do is mention names like Ryan Leaf, Tony Mandarich or Charles Rogers to a football fan and you're sure to get a chuckle - or a tear if their team drafted one of the duds. The fact is, though, that the first round of each draft is filled with many busts - guys who don't perform nearly up to the level that they are being paid.

Small School Players in the NFL Draft
by Aaron Smith - 4/2/2010
Each year the players from schools that are considered 'off the map' in college football are overlooked by almost all of the experts. Every season some of those small school players end up making a big impact in the NFL, so it is time to pay attention. While it is understandable that the media becomes fixated on the first round or so and the huge prospects, as a wise sports follower you should realize that these players from obscure schools do make a huge difference!

2010 NFL Mock Draft
by Robert Ferringo - 3/31/2010
I've been enveloped by The Madness over the last month and have let my NFL Mock Draft stylings slide a bit. For that, I apologize. I mean, what would you do without MORE inconsequential speculation about one of the most overrated - yet delightfully enjoyable - weekends in sports.

Tim Tebow in the NFL Draft
by Trevor Whenham - 3/26/2010
There are several players likely to have more impactful NFL careers in the NFL, including a couple of quarterbacks, but no player has been at the center of more discussion, debate or controversy than Tim Tebow. Opinions about him are all over the board. Coaches like John Fox and Pete Carroll have turned heads by gushing over him. Miami QB Chad Henne stirred up a hornet's nest last week when he suggested that he didn't think that Tebow was an NFL quarterback.

Wide Receivers in the 2010 NFL Draft
by Aaron Smith - 3/25/2010
The wide receiver position is a need for many teams in the NFL today, but if anyone out there is looking for a Calvin Johnson-type of freak athlete in this draft, they'll be quite disappointed. This year's class of wide receivers is full of solid athletes with plenty of skill, but none are absolute sure-thing stars in the league. Those speedy receivers may as well get ready to find a home in Oakland! The group as a whole is fairly deep, but there are quite a few hit-or-miss type players in this year's NFL Draft.

Quarterbacks in the 2010 NFL Draft
by Aaron Smith - 3/25/2010
No single rookie quarterback had a fantastic statistical season last year, but Mark Sanchez and his New York Jets did have a great run deep into the NFL Playoffs. Two years ago, Matt Ryan and Joe Flacco both took the football world by storm. This year's quarterback class is unlikely to produce two players that do as well as those two did right away, but I do think this is a solid class with a whole lot of potential.

2010 NFL Draft Prospects
by Trevor Whenham - 3/19/2010
I don't find NFL mock drafts particularly useful. In fact, I think that they are pretty much a waste of time. there is no way that anyone can be inside the heads of the decision makers for each team so they are just full of guesses, and one incorrect guess early on renders the whole thing useless. What's far more interesting and useful to me is to look at the rankings of the players. That's a far more meaningful assessment of quality and usefulness of the prospects. With that in mind, here's a look at my top 50 NFL Draft prospects in the 2010 NFL Draft class:

2010 NFL Draft Team-by-Team Needs
by Trevor Whenham - 3/19/2010
The big splashes have been made in free agency, and now NFL teams are looking towards the NFL Draft to add stars and fill holes. Even the best teams in the league have several needs to fill and upgrades to make, but every team has a few needs that are the most obvious and most pressing. Here's a look at the most significant needs for each team heading into the 2010 NFL Draft.

2010 NFL Draft Predictions
by Trevor Whenham - 3/19/2010
The best thing about the NFL Draft is that it's so big and important and well covered that everyone can have an opinion. It doesn't matter if you have seen players work out or even play. It just matters that you have an opinon and you can passionately defend it. It provides endless fodder for conversation and debate. In the spirit of having opinions, here are four predictions about the 2010 NFL Draft, which will take place over three days this year from April 22-24.

Impact Offensive Players in the NFL Draft
by Trevor Whenham - 3/18/2010
The NFL Draft is the single most over-hyped, over-analyzed, borderline obnoxious event there is. It's now a constant three-month process where players can go from off the radar to the top of the heap and back without ever playing a game. It's unquestionably important as a way for teams to reload and rebuild, but the impact isn't nearly as significant as the media makes it seem.

Running Backs in the NFL Draft
by Aaron Smith - 3/12/2010
I've put together a list of the top 10 running back prospects in this year's draft, followed by an honorable mention list of five players. Keep in mind, most of the guys near the bottom of this list will never be big-name stars in the league, but every once in a while, there is a diamond in the rough found. Here are your top running backs in the NFL Draft from Doc's Sports for 2010:

NFL Combine Report: Impressive Players
by Trevor Whenham - 3/3/2010
With the NFL Combine now in the books we have a clearer picture of the upcoming NFL Draft. There is increasing debate about the significance of the Combine these days now that players don't always participate, and players are scouted early and more intensely. Still, a good performance helps a player get drafted, and a great performance can send a player rocketing up the draft boards. After watching a good portion of the Combine, here are 10 players that stood out for what I saw them do:

2010 NFL Mock Draft
by Robert Ferringo - 2/16/2010
Guesswork. Conjecture. Speculation. Am I talking about NFL betting? I could be. But in this instance I'm talking about Doc's Sports 2010 NFL Mock Draft. There is nothing more frantic, more inaccurate, and nothing full of more guesswork than a February mock draft. Free agency hasn't kicked into full swing, the combine hasn't occurred yet, and there are still trades, individual workouts, and plenty of behind the scenes "buzz" between now and the actual draft.
