Fourth Down and Inches - Football Predictions Report
by Doc - 10/12/2010
We had a nice performance with our college football selections on Saturday, as we posted a 4-1-1 record. This could have been even better if we had pulled out our top play with Notre Dame -6 over Pittsburgh. The Irish led 20-3 at one point but could not keep control and won the game, 23-17, giving us a ‘push’.
I thought that we might get a break late in the fourth quarter when an incomplete pass in the end zone certainly looked to be intentional grounding. Had the penalty been called, a safety would have been awarded and then the final score would have been 25-17, giving us a win. The Irish are getting better each week and it’s possible that this team could win out.
There are some great matchups this week in the Big Ten Conference. One of those contests will be right in my backyard, as Wisconsin hosts The Ohio State Buckeyes. The Badgers will be sky high for this one and look for Camp Randall Stadium to be rocking for this night game. The college football line came in at Ohio State -6 and that is just were I expected it to fall. It’s always tough to lay points at Wisconsin, but I question whether the Badger defense will be able to stop Terrelle Pryor and company. The Ohio State QB did not have a single rushing attempt against Indiana last week, as he was nursing an injury. He appears to have fully recovered and I do expect him to use his legs this week. I will have a play on this encounter and this side I take may surprise some folks.
Another matchup in the conference this week is Illinois traveling to Michigan State. The Illini recorded a huge win last week at Penn State. The Illinois defense seems to be much improved when compared to the 2009 unit. They held Missouri to 23 points in St. Louis and Ohio State to 24 points in Champaign. The only chance that the visitor has here is to keep the scoring low. The ‘under’ may be worth a look in this game also.
Spanning the globe, one of the more interesting matchups this week has to be Texas traveling to Nebraska. The Horns beat Nebraska last year in the Big 12 Championship Game by a score of 13-12. Texas was a 14-point favorite in that game and needed the help of the officials to put time back on the clock to kick the game-winning field goal. This year Texas finds itself as a big underdog since the Horns already have two losses on the season. Texas will enter this game off of a bye, but I do not find myself making a selection on this game. If I was forced make a play I would side with the homer.
Moving to the NFL, it really appears that the NFC is wide open and 10 teams appear to have a chance to represent the conference in the Super Bowl. The team that has looked the most impressive of late is the New York Giants. The Giants have coming off dominating wins against the Bears and the Texans in successive weeks and they have moved atop the standings of the NFC East. If this team can protect the football, they are a force because of a great front four that they have on defense.
The knockout game this week in the NFL has to be Dallas at Minnesota. The loser of this game will likely see their playoff chances come to an end, so expect both teams to feel the pressure since a win is a must. The Vikings have been installed as a 1.5-point favorite for the opening NFL line, but I will likely not release a selection on this game due to the Brett Favre circus that has developed due to his apparent ‘sexting’. We had a couple of tough beats last week in the NFL, but are expecting a big weekend on Sunday and Monday this week.
Our yearly football journals have been a success this season and can be found throughout sports bars across the country and in casinos in Nevada. We still have a couple of cases left and if you know of a sports bar that would be interested in receiving a complimentary case, please tell them to give our sports office a call at (800) 356-9182 and we would be happy to assist them.
This week we will be running our “Big 3” package. In this package we will release three college selections, two of which will come from the Big Ten. We guarantee you that we will win at least two of these selections or you will not be charged. In order to take advantage of our guarantee you must call our main sports office direct at (800) 356-9182 or call our Las Vegas office at (866) 238-6696 on Thursday or Friday of this week.
We expecting to achieve our third straight profitable week this weekend and would love to have you along for the ride. Are selections will be posted on Thursday night and feature winners on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday.
That is it for this week
