Super Bowl Betting Recap: Late TD Helps Books Win Big
by Robert Ferringo - 02/03/2009
I think it's a pretty safe bet that Ben Roethlisberger and Santonio Holmes will never have to pay for another drink in Pennsylvania for the rest of his life. And if Las Vegas sportsbook managers are half as grateful as the members of Steelers Nation then Mr. Roethlisberger and Mr. Holmes should be welcome (and well-comped) guests in Sin City for the rest of his days.

Super Bowl Betting: Five Keys to the Game
by Trevor Whenham - 01/29/2009
We have so much time on our hands before the Super Bowl that we can afford the luxury of breaking this game down from a million different angles. It also means, unfortunately, that we have more than enough time to become very sick of talking about some aspects of the game. Yes, I'm talking about you, Anquan Boldin. That aside, the more I look at this game, the more I think that it is going to come down to just a handful of aspects.

Super Bowl Handicapping: Overrated Storylines
by Trevor Whenham - 01/29/2009
The biggest problem with the Super Bowl is the two-week gap between it and the previous game. That gives the media and fans far too much time to get themselves worked into a frenzy talking about things that just don't really matter. If you're not careful then you can get sucked in by those things and let them affect your decision-making process more than they should.

Super Bowl Proposition Bets
by Trevor Whenham - 01/28/2009
People might think that the Super Bowl is about football, but sports bettors know that it's actually about prop betting. Sportsbooks offer a ridiculous range of Super Bowl proposition bets, and there are more every year. Some of them are truly sucker bets designed to part casual bettors and their cash. There are some, however, that are interesting and worth a closer look. Here are a few, with odds from Bodog:

Super Bowl Betting: Total Trends Point To 'Over'
by Nicholas Tolomeo - 01/28/2009
Unlike the domination favorites have enjoyed in the Super Bowl there has been no clear-cut advantage when it comes to betting on the total in the NFL's biggest game of the season.

Super Bowl Betting: Tampa Bay Trends
by Matt Severance - 01/27/2009
Being a Tampa resident, I just had to write one article on the city itself for Doc's during Super Bowl week. And, no, I won't be writing about our supposed 43 strip clubs (one for each big game), although I can attest that there are an inordinate amount for a city that feels pretty Midwestern otherwise.

Super Bowl Picks: Quarterback Props
by Matt Severance - 01/24/2009
Breaking news: The quarterback is the most glamorous position in the NFL and the most likely to win a Super Bowl MVP award. Yes, a quarterback has won the Super Bowl MVP 22 times, which, if you do the math, is more than any every other position combined.

Super Bowl Picks: No. 1 Receiver Props
by Matt Severance - 01/24/2009
One of the most important factors of the Super Bowl will be the wide receivers. Arizona's Larry Fitzgerald and Pittsburgh's Hines Ward are the main go-to guys. It's probably not a stretch to state that the winning team will probably have a big day come from their top receiving threat.

2009 Super Bowl Predictions
by Trevor Whenham - 01/23/2009
The big game is still about 10 days away, but I'm getting tired of constantly thinking about it, analyzing it, and picking sides. It's time, then, for me to put my Super Bowl predictions down on paper. A lot can happen between now and kickoff, so what I think now can certainly change. At this point, though, this is my best guess at how things are going to turn out.

Super Bowl Handicapping
by Trevor Whenham - 01/23/2009
Handicapping the Super Bowl is not like handicapping any other football game. There is far more betting volume than any other game, far more scrutiny, and many more factors in play. If you are going to be successful at playing the game then you need to adjust your approach to handicapping. It doesn't have to be dramatic changes, but a shift in your mindset is certainly required. Here's a look at four different areas that you should think about when doing your Super Bowl handicapping:

Super Bowl Betting: Handicapping the Quarterbacks
by Trevor Whenham - 01/23/2009
It may not be what ultimately determines the outcome of the Super Bowl this year, but the comparison between the two quarterbacks in the game is compelling stuff. Kurt Warner and Ben Roethlisberger are different guys with very different playing styles, but they both have a ring in their pocket, and they will only likely get another if they have a big game.

Super Bowl Betting: First-Time Teams Have Struggled
by Trevor Whenham - 01/21/2009
As we have heard many, many times before, this is the first Super Bowl berth for the Arizona Cardinals, or for any other version of the Cardinals' franchise. We'll put aside the fact that Arizona is such an unlikely Super Bowl team to determine how to deal with them now that they are there.

Super Bowl Betting: How Weather Plays Into Big Game
by Trevor Whenham - 01/21/2009
The common theory is that the weather isn't usually much of a factor in the Super Bowl. The sites are chosen because they are either mild or domed so that the VIPs don't have to be burdened by wearing a heavy jacket. Tampa Bay fits into that category. Temperatures can occasionally fall into the 50s or even lower in the winter, but it's quite likely that the kickoff temperature will be at or above 70 degrees.

Betting the Super Bowl Coin Toss
by Trevor Whenham - 01/21/2009
Betting successfully on the Super Bowl is no easy task. There are so many unique factors at play that it's hard to know what is going to happen. It often comes down to just flipping a coin. And speaking of flipping a coin, if you are a real degenerate then you can bet on that, too. The Super Bowl coin toss is not a great bet - the odds are 50/50, yet the price is -105. Despite that, tens of thousands of people will be betting on the Super Bowl coin toss on Feb. 1.

by Nicholas Tolomeo - 01/20/2009
