NFL Sunday Predictions - Week 17
by Josh Nagel - 12/30/2009
In the final week of the NFL season, finding games in which both teams are motivated is paramount to finding a good bet. Some gamblers found this out the hard way last week, when the previously unbeaten Indianapolis Colts pulled their starters early in the third quarter and ended up gift-wrapping a 29-15 win to the desperate New York Jets.

NFL Sunday Predictions - Week 16
by Josh Nagel - 12/23/2009
Handicapping NFL games in the last two weeks of the season often comes down to motivation. That is, which teams still have something left to play for, which teams have mailed it in and which others have wrapped up their postseason berths and might be resting for the playoffs

Tom Brady and the New England Patriots used to beat the tar out of the perennial AFC East patsies twice a year for the sheer enjoyment of it. If that weren't enough - and usually, it is - this time around the Patriots have a double-dose of motivation working in their favor against the Buffalo Bills.

Although both teams have 5-7 records, only one can be considered a real disappointment. That would be the Houston Texans, who are headed down the stretch of another season filled with high expectations but met with disappointing results. Barring a miracle, the Texans will again miss the playoffs and coach Gary Kubiak likely will find himself looking for a job.

NFL Sunday Predictions - Week 13
by Josh Nagel - 12/3/2009
When you're looking for value in the NFL, there's nothing quite like a home underdog. That is, especially when the home team that is getting the points has a winning record and is undefeated at home. The Atlanta Falcons have both records in their favor, which makes it puzzling why this line, which opened at Eagles -1.5 or -2 at most sportsbooks, was quickly bet up to -5.5 at most books worldwide.

NFL Sunday Predictions - Week 12
by Josh Nagel - 11/24/2009
This game appears to provide a good spot in which to take team that has plenty to play for against another that's season has been lost and might be looking to simply play out the string. Meet the Miami Dolphins, who are clinging to longshot playoff hopes after turning their season around following an 0-3 start and the Buffalo Bills, who have watched another season go from hopeful to hopeless in a matter of weeks.

NFL Sunday Predictions - Week 11

Long before he was blamed for running one of the dullest offensive teams in league history, Redskins coach Jim Zorn had the critics on his side. Temporarily, that is. In the midst of a 6-2 start last year in his first season as head coach, Zorn was applauded for making the most of a team with limited talent on offense, playing mistake-free football and winning games with a solid defense.

NFL Sunday Predictions - Week 10

The Jaguars appeared headed toward some success, as the Jack Del Rio-coached club always is a trendy pick heading into each season. It seemed to make sense, as the Jaguars have a talented nucleus and one of the league's top young running backs in Maurice Jones-Drew.

NFL Sunday Predictions - Week 9

Although it looks as though Tom Brady and the Patriots are about to re-open space for their growing bandwagon, you might want to wait until the end of Sunday's game against the Dolphins to get your ticket.

Before the first "Brett Favre Bowl" this season in Minnesota, former All-Pro turned NFL broadcaster Steve Young commented that Rodgers fails to be counted among the league's elite quarterbacks because he lacks a signature win on his resume. Young was right and, the problem is, Rodgers still lacks such a victory.

Although the 49ers are a much-improved team with what often looks like a playoff-caliber defense, their lack of consistent offense was bound to catch up with them. Opportunistic turnovers and just enough plays from quarterback Shaun Hill enabled the 49ers to get by thus far, but their weaknesses are going to be exposed as the season wears on.

NFL Sunday Predictions - Week 6
by Josh Nagel - 10/16/2009
This game features two teams that, to some degree, are headed in opposite directions. The Bengals are one miracle play away from being 5-0, and it appears coach Marvin Lewis has turned things around just in time to save his job and give Bengals fans some long-elusive hope.

NFL Sunday Predictions - Week 5

According to oddsmakers, the Raiders are the most popular "bet-against" team in the NFL. In other words, no matter the opponent or the point spread, gamblers are lining up to bet their money against the Raiders.

NFL Sunday Predictions - Week 4
by Josh Nagel - 10/2/2009
The Cowboys rank third in total yards (429 per game) and are fifth in scoring at 28.7. Denver will have to make its share of plays to keep pace, and it says here the Broncos will struggle to do so. This is a big matchup for both teams and my free pick on this game is a solid one.

NFL Sunday Predictions - Week 3
by Josh Nagel - 9/25/2009
Two big games on the NFL schedule this weekend and I think we've found two strong situations to cash in on. One of them is a "hot" team coming off a big upset against a surprising 0-2 disappointment. The other is a divisional rivalry game that involves revenge and the world champions. Should be a big weekend and here are two game previews and predictions:

Delhomme's days as the starting signal-caller in Carolina might be numbered as well. While it's rarely appropriate to point the blame on one player for a loss, it's fair to say Delhomme single-handedly took Carolina out of the game against the Eagles. He had a fumble returned for a touchdown and gave the Eagles a short field on many other occasions.

NFL Sunday Predictions - Week 1
by Josh Nagel - 9/10/2009
Patience might be the central theme of this Week 1 contest. One club, the Houston Texans, is running out of it, while the other, the New York Jets, might have to exercise some as a rebuilding team. Although the Texans have improved under the watch of coach Gary Kubiak, he has failed to bring them a playoff berth, let alone a winning season, in his three years at the helm.
