Sports Betting Christmas Wish List
by Trevor Whenham - 12/24/2009
Dear Santa, I've been a good boy this year. I was going to come see you in person to tell you that and give you my wish list, but I have this thing about sitting on the laps of grown men. I'll write it all down instead. I don't want much, and nothing on here is unreasonable.

It's no secret around Las Vegas that City Center is on everyone's minds. MGM Mirage will unveil Project City Center this month and one of the towers that has a casino and sports book is called "Aria". Winter Olympics Betting Odds: A First Look
by Trevor Whenham - 11/30/2009
It doesn't seem possible, but the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver are now just over two months away - they run Feb. 12-28. There will be plenty of betting opportunities when the events are underway, and some oddsmakers have jumped the gate and put out some Olympics betting odds already.

Sports Betting Locks - Buyer Beware
by Max Powers - 11/20/2009
With the invention of the Internet, numerous sports handicapping Web sites have popped up overnight and they all claim that they are the service that can make you money. This still is the one and only goal of a selection service and if you can achieve this more often then not you should have a long career in this business.

Sports Tragedy: How Teams React to Sudden Deaths
by Trevor Whenham - 10/20/2009
The real world has sadly invaded the bubble of sports yet again. The University of Connecticut is dealing with tragedy after cornerback Jasper Howard was stabbed and killed early on Sunday morning - just hours after he had recorded a career-high 11 tackles against Louisville. Howard was a rapidly developing player who was a key piece of the UConn backfield and had a reasonable shot at an NFL career.

This Week in Betting, A-Z
by Trevor Whenham - 9/28/2009
. The Texans can look brilliant - as they did in Week 2. They can look terrible - like they did in week one. Or they can look like a perfectly bland, underwhelming team like they did in this loss. Matt Schaub was solid, but he floundered down the stretch when it mattered most. The biggest concern for Houston, though, has to be the run defense - it is the wost in the league, and it was torched for the third straight week.

Can Bayern Conquer Europe?
by Strike Point Sports - 8/31/2009
Last week the UEFA Champions League draw was held and the 32 clubs competing were placed into their respective groups with matchups finally decided. It's no secret that soccer's most prestigious club tournament is linked with heavy favorites from Spain and England.

Sports Futures Market Offers Great Return on Investment
by Robert Ferringo - 8/24/2009
Tu Dign has a barren, cookie-cutter office at the local branch of Bank of America. His desk is relatively unimpressive and cluttered with pamphlets and literature on a variety of BOA programs ("Buy Pizza, Save Money!" is the tag line on one). There are no pictures on the wall, save for the knock-off print from The Met that's framed in glass but still about three sizes too small for the space it struggles to occupy.

Delaware Sports Betting Information
by Trevor Whenham - 8/20/2009
Barring a legal setback, the state of Delaware will be starting to offer single-wager sports betting on football and baseball games starting at the beginning of September. This is a very important move, and it will be watched closely by other states who would like to offer sports betting themselves, and by pretty much everyone involved in the sports betting industry in any way.

Delaware Sports Betting Locations and Limits
by Trevor Whenham - 8/19/2009
Pretty much everyone involved in any way with the sports betting business has been playing close attention to what has been going on in Delaware. A 1992 federal law banned betting on sports across the country, but four states were grandfathered in because of previously established activities - Nevada obviously, along with Delaware, Montana, and Oregon.

World Soccer Predictions
by Strike Point Sports - 8/19/2009
Two hundred and ninety five days and counting - that is until the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa. Next July's grandest of them all will mark the first time in the history of this tournament that the stage will be on the continent of Africa. And while plenty of moneymaking opportunities will emerge next summer, as well as beforehand with continuing WC qualifiers, we're here today to talk about looking at some of Europe's top-flight domestic leagues as a good way to make a buck on the beautiful game.

Soccer Betting: Gold Cup Semis and Final Predictions
by Trevor Whenham - 7/22/2009
Between the Confederations Cup in South Africa and now the Gold Cup on American soil it seems like the U.S soccer team has been in action for months in a row. Those in charge of the national team infrastructure are probably growing tired of the endless competition, but they'll certainly be hoping that they have two more games left to play.

Soccer Betting: Gold Cup Quarterfinal Preview
by Nicholas Tolomeo - 7/16/2009
The CONCACAF Gold Cup moves on to the quarterfinals this weekend. Of the eight teams from North and Central America and the Caribbean, the United States is the heavy favorite this weekend. However, it's not as heavy as a favorite as some may have expected.

Soccer Handicapping: Gold Cup Betting Preview
by Trevor Whenham - 07/07/2009
It seems like we just got through one major international soccer tournament, and already we are on to the next one. Granted, the Gold Cup is virtually meaningless in comparison to the Confederations Cup that just ended in South Africa. Still, this much exposure to major international soccer is all very good preparation for the sensory overload that we will face less than a year from now when the World Cup starts in South Africa.

Tour de France Betting Predictions
by Trevor Whenham - 07/01/2009
The 2009 Tour de France gets underway this week, and for the first time since 2005 a lot of Americans will actually care. That was when Lance Armstrong retired after winning seven straight editions of the race. As you surely know by now, Armstrong has made his return to action, and with him he has brought some real drama and intrigue to this race.

The long, long football drought is about to come to and end. Finally. It's not the best option out there, but the Canadian Football League is better than nothing, and it starts up an 18-game season on July 1.

Confederations Cup Semifinals Odds and Predictions
by Trevor Whenham - 06/23/2009
The Confederations Cup - a dress rehearsal for next year's World Cup - has been ongoing in South Africa for the last couple of weeks. Eight teams started - the winners of the last regional tournament in each of the world's six regions, the defending World Cup champ Italians, and the host South Africans. Now just four remain. Spain will play the Americans on Wednesday after the U.S. made it to the second round with some impossibly good luck.

2009 Wimbledon Predictions
Christopher G. Shepard - 06/19/2009
It's all strawberries and cream for Roger Federer as he attempts to win his 15th Grand Slam title at the All England Club beginning Monday June 22 continuing through July 5. It's unlikely he'll be able to avenge his loss to Rafael Nadal in last year's epic final since Nadal is holding a news conference Friday afternoon where it is expected the world's No.1 tennis player is likely pull out of this year's tournament due a persistent knee injury he sustained at Madrid a week before the French Open.

2010 World Cup Futures Betting
Trevor Whenham - 06/19/2009
The 2010 World Cup, taking place in South Africa, is now less than a year away from starting. We'll obviously spend a whole lot of time closer to the start looking at the event from every possible angle, but it's never too early to take a first look. Here is where some of the top teams are at in their preparations (futures odds are from 5Dimes):

Summer Betting Tune-Up
by Trevor Whenham - 6/12/09
There is really no true offseason for committed, addicted sports bettors. But this time we are entering right now is about as close as it gets. The NBA and NHL are in their final throes, the NFL is as dormant as it gets, major college sports are in hibernation, and so on. Baseball plods along relentlessly, but that's not for everyone - at least not at this time of year. Since things are relatively slow, now is a great time to give your sports betting activities a summer tune-up.

2009 French Open Odds and Predictions
by Christopher G. Shepard - 05/18/2009
Four-time French Open Champion Rafael Nadal will need to overcome a nagging knee injury sustained in Madrid last week to surpass Bjorn Borg for the most consecutive French Open single's titles as tennis' second grand slam of the year kicks up the red dust at Roland Garros from May 24 to June 7.

Major League Soccer Betting Tips
by Trevor Whenham - 04/01/2009
The Major League Soccer season has been underway for a couple of weeks now, and the overwhelming majority of North American sports fans have yet to notice. Actually, most sports fans probably don't notice the league at any time during their season. The quality of the soccer is definitely very much inferior to what can be easily seen from Europe, but there is at least one good thing to be said about the league - it's quite bettable.

World Cup Qualifying Futures
by Trevor Whenham - 03/06/2009
It seems hard to believe, but the 2010 World Cup in South Africa is just over a year away. That means that qualifying is underway. South Africa has a spot secured as host, leaving 31 more spots for the 199 teams that have entered the qualification process. The most qualifying spots - 13 - are allocated to teams from Europe. That only makes sense since that's where the biggest number of competitive teams are located.

Sports Betting: All-Star Betting Teams
by Trevor Whenham - 02/13/2009
It's NBA all-star weekend. In honor of that, I thought that I would name an all-star team of my own. With action being spread over the NHL, the NBA, and college basketball these days, I thought I would name my all star squad of the best betting teams currently active in sports. I didn't necessarily just want to pick the five teams that have made the most money for their backers all season.

Sports Betting: Handicapping Around the Trade Deadline
by Trevor Whenham - 02/12/2009
We are in the heart of trade deadline season. The NBA deadline is on Feb. 19 this year, and the NHL deadline comes soon after on March 4. For fans, the trade deadline is perhaps the most exciting and interesting thing on the horizon between Christmas and the playoffs. The rumors and speculation are like crack to a junkie.

How Do Football Pools Work? - How Do I Start a Football Pool?
by Max Powers - 01/20/2009
There is a reason that the Super Bowl is the most watched television event each year. It is a day of celebration and family and friends gather around the TV Sunday night regardless of who is playing in the big game. Many people often wonder what draws so many non-football fans to the Super Bowl. Is it the singing, commercials, or star-studded halftime show? Those are all valid reasons but the main reason is still gambling, the hidden secret of the NFL's popularity.

Sports Betting: Impact of Injuries on the Point Spread
by Trevor Whenham - 01/09/2009
Injuries. There are few things that can make the mind of a sport bettor hurt more than trying to figure out how to compensate for them. How much of an impact will the loss of a superstar have on a team? How about the impact of a journeyman player? Have the oddsmakers undercompensated for the injury, or overcompensated? We will explore those questions and more, but first let's look at an example to understand the difficulty of the problem.
