The regular season concluded and now the quest for Lord Stanley begins. Fourteen teams are done for the season while 16 remain. Players have put away their razors for what they hope is a three-round trip to the Stanley Cup Finals and a chance to raise the most famous trophy above their heads.

Trade deadline deals or lack of deals are making a difference now as teams are surging to sneak into the top eight in their conference while others are fading out of contention. The top of the Power Rankings has a new occupant besides the Sharks or Bruins for the first time this season. The Detroit Red Wings, the defending Stanley Cup champions, are now No. 1 and catching fire at just the right time. The Pittsburgh Penguins, who fell to the Red Wings in the Stanley Cup last season, have rejoined the Top 10 this week.

As the trade deadline approaches on March 4 some teams have big decisions to make -- are they going to make any moves to make a run at Lord Stanley this season or are they going to start planning for the future? Some teams at the bottom of our power rankings don't have much of a decision to make but some teams may take on different identity after the deadline.

With less than 30 games left in the NHL season the focus begins to shift to the seventh- to 10th-place teams in the Conferences. This is the point in the season where those teams have to make sure they stay in striking distance to keep playoff hopes alive. Up at the top the San Jose Sharks and the Boston Bruins have flip-flopped spots with a showdown Tuesday night between the two teams likely to determine who is top dog in the league.

A flip fop at the top of the NHL Power Rankings is only one of many changes in the fourth edition of the NHL Power Rankings. We are fresh off another successful Winter Classic and the NHL season is building momentum as the All-Star Game looms. More teams continue to drop out of contention while some playoff races heat up.

The top three teams in our last NHL power rankings have cemented their respective spots at the top of this week's Power Rankings. However, after that it has been a wide-open field. The Blackhawks and Flyers are two of the biggest gainers this week after consecutive weeks of solid performances.
