Inside Las Vegas
by Vegas Sports Informer - 02/14/2008
Here we go with my idea to let the rest of the world what is going on inside the Las Vegas sports books. I gamble and I live here in Sin City so I have the inside scoop of what the Vegas books are doing and thinking. I have many industry contacts so now I'm ready to tell the betting public what I know.
It's been a while since I wrote an article about what is going on in Sin City but now that the NFL and college football is over I will have more time to write articles. I know that the city of Vegas is happy that the 2008 NBA All-Star Game is in New Orleans and not back here in Southern Nevada. Myself, like many other locals, hated having the game here last year. There were too many people in my favorite stripper joints that weekend!
This weekend at the MGM Grand Garden Arena we have a great Boxing match scheduled. Jermain Taylor against Kelly Pavlik in their second fight. Their first battle took place last year and many called it the Fight of the Year. In that match, Pavlik was down and seriously hurt in the second round but fought back to knock out Taylor in the seventh round to win the middleweight championship. Right now Kelly Pavlik is the favorite around Las Vegas and Pavlik is a -185 favorite. Most likely the public will bet Taylor so if you like Pavlik I would wait until Saturday evening to bet him. Saturday night's rematch at MGM Grand is a non-title fight and figures to be just like the first fight -- memorable!
Fight Odds: (MGM Mirage)
Jermain Taylor +165
Kelly Pavlik 185
Will Go/Won't Go 10 ½ Rounds Proposition
Will Go 10 ½ Rounds +170
Won't Go 10 ½ Rounds -200
Knockout/Decision Proposition
Jermain Taylor by Decision 7/2
Jermain Taylor by Knockout 12/5
Kelly Pavlik by Decision 3/1
Kelly Pavlik by Knockout -120
12 Round Draw 12/1
Also, most Las Vegas Casinos will have "Pick the Round Proposition".
While I was going around town cashing my Super Bowl prop bets I came across this proposition wager at the Bellagio. I do believe that the Bellagio is part of the MGM/ Mirage properties. These wagers were called, "Big Three Proposition" and included the 2008 Major League baseball season, 2008-09 NFL season, 2008-09 College Football season and the current 2007-08 College Basketball season. To me these looked kind of interesting, especially for the MLB prop and the college basketball prop. For March Madness you have 61 teams against three and the price in my eyes is a little short.
Big Three Proposition:
2008 MLB Big Three
(NY Mets, NY Yankees, and Boston Red Sox)
Big Three +190
Field (All Others) -240
2008-09 NFL Big Three
(New England, Indianapolis, Dallas)
Big Three +190
Field (All Others) -240
2008-09 College Football Big Three
(Georgia, USC, and Ohio St)
Big Three +240
Field (All Others) -300
2007-08 College Basketball Big Three
(North Carolina, Memphis, and Kansas)
Big Three -115
Field (All Others) -115
Right now the Vegas books are still licking their wounds after the butt kicking they received on Super Bowl Sunday, but most of the race & sports book employees I've talked too told me that they have already forgotten about the Super Bowl and are now focusing on March Madness and the upcoming baseball season. It's also funny that most people didn't even know that the Las Vegas Gladiators team moved to Cleveland and Vegas doesn't have an Arena Football team anymore. But look for more articles on the upcoming 2008 Arena Football season from myself…The Vegas Sports Informer!
