NBA: 5 Worst Teams in the League
by Vegas Sports Informer - 01/16/2008
So far this NBA season has been about the Boston Celtics, the surprising Portland Blazers, and Kobe Bryant; who is surprisingly still a Laker and has received some help from his supporting cast to impress in the West. However, on the other end of the spectrum, this season has had some HUGE basketball betting disappointments and these teams have actually made me some good hard cold cash. Not only are these teams horrible on the road but they are just as bad at home. These bottom five teams are going to have a long season and I don't see anything making these teams any better. At least the 2008 NBA Draft could be a good one because these teams need a lot of help.
Here are my five bottom NBA teams as of 1/15/08:
5. New York Knicks (5-32)
One name sums up the plight New York Knicks -- Isiah Thomas. This team will go nowhere as long as he is on the bench. This squad has players that don't play together refuse to play team basketball. We could see some more dumb trades before the NBA Trade Deadline for this New York team and it wouldn't be surprise me to see Ron Artest in a Knicks jersey. Hey Isiah, why don't call your former teammate Dennis Rodman and have him suit up? New York is 2-13 SU on the road and a horrible 0-5 ATS as a favorite and 0-5 ATS as a home favorite.
4. Memphis Grizzlies (10-28)
At one time this Memphis team went as far as Pau Gasol would take them but now it's all about Mike Miller and how many points he can score each night. I still believe that Gasol is distracted with all of the trade rumors that have circled around him for the past year. It wouldn't surprise me to see him in a Chicago Bulls uniform in a trade for Ben Gordon and some other players. The Griz have won only five games out of their last 23 and have lost six of their last seven. The only good thing about this team from a betting perspective is that their defense gives up a ton of points and the over is always something to look at when this team is on the betting board.
3. Seattle Supersonics (9-28)
It's not going to be a Happy New Year for the Sonics as eight of their first 10 games in 2008 will be on the road. This Seattle team is a very young team and the offense is on the shoulders of a kid (Kevin Durant). I actually feel sorry for this kid because he will be losing a lot of games for the next couple of years. Seattle is looking for their first win of the new year and has lost nine out their last 10 games. Seattle will win another game this year, I just can't tell you when or against whom.
2. Miami Heat (8-28)
The most surprising team on the list is the Miami Heat! This Miami team doesn't look like they will get better or find the fountain of youth anytime soon. They look old and uninspired. D-Wade still isn't 100 percent and now he now has to carry this team by himself because Shaq looks like he is 80 years old on the floor. Miami has lost 10 straight and out of those 10 games they have only covered once. Miami has been very profitable to my wallet this year and I'm hoping all season to continue to bet against them.
1. Minnesota Timberwolves (5-32)
This is the first year without Kevin Garnett and the record shows it. This Minnesota team is horrible both at home and on the road. The Wolves struggle at times to score and are only averaging 92.9 points per game and have only hit the century mark nine times in 38 games. Minnesota has lost nine out of their last 10 games and I don't see any improvement anytime soon. For you Minnesota Timberwolves fans, look forward to the NBA Draft for many years to come. Too bad the oddsmakers knew this team would be bad because there hasn't been that many opportunities to make money by going against them with my NBA picks.
The NBA Trade Deadline is in February but these teams need more then just one guy for improvements. Miami, Memphis and New York could make some noise but nothing will help push them to the playoffs. Teams that might make this list in the future could be the LA Clippers, Charlotte Bobcats, Sacramento Kings, and my most disappointing team in the NBA, the Chicago Bulls. The Chicago Bulls season is another story for another time.
