Doc's Weekly Prescription
by Doc's Sports Services - 02/12/2007
There's a natural letdown that occurs from all the hair-raising, blood-boiling, shock-inducing, gleeful dancing, and general mayhem that occurs through a weekend's worth of gambling action. And it's a scientific fact that Monday's are the most difficult day of the week for sports and gaming fans across the world, with Monday Sports Syndrome linked to illness and famine across the globe. OK, so I made that last part up. But it the start of a new week can be a cold splash of water to the face for Men of Action like you and I.
Fortunately, our team of handicappers at Doc's Sports Services has precisely the cure: DOC'S WEEKLY PRESCRIPTION. Each week we'll be bringing you a quick recap of the insanity that engulfed the industry over the weekend and a short preview of some key matchups in the week ahead. It's exactly what you need to keep your instincts heightened and your eyes firmly fixed on upcoming opportunities to keep your bankroll growing.
Here's the inside scoop from the guys who get it done over at Doc's Sports:
DOC'S SPORTS
Doc's Sports had an outstanding weekend in college basketball, going 5-2 to bank +15 Units. The highlight was clearly cashing in on our College Game of the Year when Oregon State kept Arizona State winless in Pac-10 play. We already hit with our Big 10 and ACC Games of the Year, and this week we're going down south for our SEC GOY.
Indiana at Purdue (7 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 14)
Bragging rights will be on the line when the Hoosiers invade West Lafayette to take on
the Boilermakers. Purdue has been beaten up by Ohio State recently but still have been tough to beat at Mackey Arena losing just once this season. Indiana has some questionable road losses (Iowa and Illinois) and could use this victory to bolster their tournament seeding.
Florida at Vanderbilt (1 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 17)
The Commodores gave the Gators all they could handle in their first meeting, leading by 11 points at the break before letting their guard down in the second half. Now they
get the No. 1 team in the land in Nashville and this may be the Gators toughest road game this year. Florida will be favored, but could the Commodores pull the upset?
ROBERT FERRINGO
Who's been saying for two months that Duke wasn't a Top 25 team? Who? That's right: this guy! It's not just because I loathe Duke and the soulless, corporate, whiny, entitled, aristocratic species that it represents. I just don't think they're any good. Look for my College Basketball Game of the Month to go this week. If I can get these two teams to set themselves up for their Saturday meeting then this should be an easy 7-Unit score.
Here are a couple games that you might want to check out this week:
Winthrop at Missouri State (7 p.m., Friday, Feb. 16)
I love Winthrop. Love 'em. Their cover (should've been a straight up win) in last year's NCAA Tournament was my Game of the Year - and I called it three months before the tournament even started! Well, I'm not saying that they're going to win this game (SWMS shoots lights out in their home gym) but I am saying that I will again be taking Winthrop no matter who they play in the first round of this year's tourney. By the way, check out their schedule. If they win this game they should clinch an at-large berth.
North Carolina at Boston College (9 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 16)
The Best Case Scenario has the Eagles finding a way to extend Duke's misery on Wednesday, because that will help keep this line close. I think it's been admirable what B.C. has done without Sean Williams - they're in first place in the ACC - but if they win an emotional rematch with the Blue Devils I think they get beat by 15+ by the Carolina, which is simply a godless killing machine.

VEGAS SPORTS INFORMER
We stayed red hot this past weekend in the NBA, knocking down our last six NBA selections (+22 Units) and raking in +44 Units in our last 22 picks. Also, I attended the Kansas-Missouri game in Columbia this weekend. If the Jayhawks play like that, or like they did in Vegas against Florida, then they could be a team to look for in March.
Here are three games that I have my eye on this week:
Santa Clara at Gonzaga (Midnight, Monday, Feb. 12)
Josh Heytvelt, (a 6-foot-11 sophomore forward averaging 15.5 points and 7.7 rebounds per game) picked the wrong time to put his team in this position. Then again there's never a good time for a primary player to get suspended from his squad. Gonzaga being short-handed could prove to be the perfect opportunity for the Broncos to finally end Gonzaga's incredible home win streak.
Texas Tech at Texas A&M (7 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 13)
Big showdown in Texas this Tuesday when red hot Texas A&M hosts Texas Tech. Texas A&M has won 14 out of their last 15 games and has not lost a game at home this year. Texas A&M is 16-5 ATS vs. Big 12 schools and is 10-4 ATS in their last 14 home games.
San Antonio at Detroit (7:30 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 14)
This 2005 NBA Finals rematch replays itself on Wednesday when San Antonio comes to Motown to face the Detroit Pistons. Two teams that are going in opposite directions - San Antonio has lost four out of their last five and Detroit has won six in a row.

STRIKE POINTS SPORTS
It was an exceptional Saturday to enjoy college hoops this past weekend. If you like parity you saw West Virginia knock off the No. 2 UCLA Bruins. If barnburners are your style, hopefully you enjoyed that double OT thriller between Texas Tech and Oklahoma State. And if you like consistency, try our 13 straight winning weeks since we opened the season in mid-November.
Here's several games we'll be eyeing to see what kind of spreads emerge:
Santa Clara at Gonzaga (Midnight, Monday, Feb. 12)
The Broncos are hot on the trail of the Bulldogs, and the winner here will own first place in the WCC. Gonzaga's notorious home court winning streak will make them favorites, but Josh Heytvelt's absence could leave the Zags high and dry.
Winthrop at Missouri State (7 p.m., Friday, Feb. 16)
Who else is excited for Bracket Buster Saturday? It actually begins on Friday when two of the best mid-majors in the nation clash. Winthrop and Missouri State will be a superb match-up with NCAA Tournament appeal.
No. 20 Southern Illinois at No. 9 Butler (4 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 17)
The premier match-up is not with the big boys on Saturday. The Salukis bring their high intensity defense to Hinkle Fieldhouse to face a Butler team fresh off a conference loss to Wright State. Expect a low scoring affair, but not one not lacking great guard play.
