Doc's Weekly Prescription
by Doc's Sports Services - 01/30/2007
There's a natural letdown that occurs from all the hair-raising, blood-boiling, shock-inducing, gleeful dancing, and general mayhem that occurs through a weekend's worth of gambling action. And it's a scientific fact that Monday's are the most difficult day of the week for sports and gaming fans across the world, with Monday Sports Syndrome linked to illness and famine across the globe. OK, so I made that last part up. But it the start of a new week can be a cold splash of water to the face for Men of Action like you and I.
Fortunately, our team of handicappers at Doc's Sports Services has precisely the cure: DOC'S WEEKLY PRESCRIPTION. Each week we'll be bringing you a quick recap of the insanity that engulfed the industry over the weekend and a short preview of some key matchups in the week ahead. It's exactly what you need to keep your instincts heightened and your eyes firmly fixed on upcoming opportunities to keep your bankroll growing.
Here's the inside scoop from the guys who get it done over at Doc's Sports:

We've been cleaning house with college hoops lately, with the highlight coming when our Big Ten Game of the Year easily won as Purdue dominated Illinois 64-47 last Saturday. The Boilers hopped out to a 24-5 lead and never looked back. We're looking to back up last week's run with our 6-Unit ACC Game of the Year this week.
Here are a couple of key college games to watch out for over the next few days:
Wisconsin at Indiana (6 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 31)
If Bucky can secure a win here the Badgers could be able to run the table until late February. The Hoosiers have been solid this year and are on their way t earning a well-deserved NCAA bid. Expect a low number in this spot, and we're likely to have a play on this one.
Ohio State at Michigan State (4 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 3)
We cashed in with the Spartans last weekend with their classic comeback. They were down 20 points but actually had a chance to win at the buzzer. Michigan State came up short in Columbus, but it will be interesting to see how the Buckeyes handle a trip across the boarder into enemy territory.
VEGAS SPORTS INFORMER
Last Sunday I was sweating my big "Revenge Play" on the San Antonio Spurs at Los Angeles Lakers. It took some overtime, but the Spurs came back from 10 down in the fourth quarter to win the game in OT, 96-94! We're finally on a little hot streak in the NBA, rolling out a 6-1 mark (+16 Units). Also, can someone explain how Steve Nash isn't an All-Star Game starter?
Here are three games that I have my eye on this week:
Super Bowl XLI: Indianapolis vs. Chicago (6:25 p.m., Sunday, Feb 4)
The underdog match up in this game is at the quarterback position. You can take future Hall-of-Famer Peyton Manning or you can take the biggest long shot in Super Bowl history Rex Grossman. On paper it's a no-brainer. But everyone said the same thing about Trent Dilfer when he took Baltimore to the Super Bowl. What did Dilfer do? He brought home the title.
Detroit at Washington (7 p.m., Tuesday, Jan 30)
This is the final regular season meeting between these two clubs, and comes just a few days after Washington beat Detroit in the Palace (99-96 on Friday). Can the Pistons contain Agent Zero - Gilbert Arenas - on Tuesday? We'll see.
Ohio St. at Purdue (7 p.m., Wednesday, Jan 31)
Both these squads are coming off weekend wins. The Buckeyes have two road games this week, and they've struggled away from home in Big 10 play. They're last two road games were a loss at Wisconsin and a close win at Northwestern. I think this youthful OSU club might overlook the Boilermakers because they're focused on their rematch against Michigan State.

STRIKE POINTS SPORTS
We were shocked this past Thursday when our Game of the Week got shot down at the buzzer, the first loss of its kind all year. However, two days later SPS made good on their promise to deliver our biggest Saturday so far in the college hoops season. Going 6-0 (+19 units), not to mention cashing their lone Sunday play, we've now posted a profit in all 11 weeks of the college basketball season.
Oregon at UCLA (10:30 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 1)
The Bruins are looking for revenge after the Ducks knocked them off as the No. 1 team in the country back in December in Eugene. UCLA is awfully tough in Westwood, and coming off a bad loss to Stanford, it's going to be interesting how many they'll be laying to a very good road Oregon team.
Texas A&M at Kansas (9 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 3)
The Jayhawks have been dominant in Lawrence, but this Saturday they get their toughest test so far. The Aggies could be the nation's best defensive team, but this will be quite a test for Acie Law and company. If Kansas was laying nearly nine points to Oklahoma State back several weeks ago, who knows how accurate this line will be?
Tennessee at Florida (3 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 3)
This game all depends if Chris Lofton is back and fully healthy. Last season the Vols won in Gainesville and swept the conference series. Last year's group had more talent but this year's is just as feisty and athletic. We saw them give Ohio State a scare at home, so can they do that again versus the defending champions.

ROBERT FERRINGO
I'm still suffering the shakes from my first non-football weekend in months. It gave us more time to focus on college hoops though. We were two terrible pushes (how did SU blow that lead to Louisville, and how did the Notre Dame guy miss both "meaningless" freebies?) from another monster Saturday. We did net +9 Units, running our tally to +40 over the past three Saturdays. And yes, we'll be going for the gold again this weekend. Giddy up.
Here are a couple games that you might want to check out this week:
Super Bowl XLI: Indianapolis vs. Chicago (6:25 p.m., Sunday, Feb 4)
You know, I just can't shake the feeling that this game is a redux of the Rams-Patriots Super Bowl in 2002 or the Bills-Giants game in 1991. On one hand we have the sexy, high-powered offense. On the other we have the more physical, run-the-ball-and-play-great-defense. Then again, it could end up being like San Fran-San Diego in 1995. Four players to watch: Cato June, Mushin Muhammad, Fred Miller, and Hunter Smith.
Gonzaga at Stanford (11 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 31)
It's not the sexiest game on the slate this week but it is intriguing. The Cardinal are rolling, beating USC and UCLA at home last week, and have cashed out in eight of 10. However, I think the Bulldogs can give Stanford a game. If this line is small (Stanford -4.5 or less) there's value on the Cards. But if it gets fat (Stanford -6.5 or higher) then we'll be on the Zags.
