Strike Point: MLB Weekend Preview
by Strike Point Sports - 6/14/2007
Weekend baseball encompasses some of the best match-ups of the week. We'll break down which series you should be focused on, as well as the pitching duels that will give the advantage on either side.
New York Mets at New York Yankees
Now we finally get the highly acclaimed Subway Series with the Yankees on top of their game. Well, they are just two games over .500, however nine straight wins is nine straight wins. The Mets have been topsy-turvy of late, and they'll get every bit of a challenge from the Bombers looking to chop some more games off from Boston's division lead.
Probable Pitching Match-ups
Friday - Oliver Perez vs. Roger Clemens
Saturday - Tom Glavine vs. Tyler Clippard
Sunday - Orlando Hernandez vs. Chien-Meng Wang
Detroit Tigers at Philadelphia Phillies
Another series worth mentioning takes place in the City of Brotherly Love. The Phils can continue to jump back into the NL East race, especially with the current slide of the Mets. The Tigers are trading punches daily with the Indians in their own division, and every series for them will be decisive when figuring out the AL Central winner.
Probable Pitching Match-ups
Friday - Jeremy Bonderman vs. John Lieber
Saturday - Andrew Miller vs. Jamie Moyer
Sunday - Justin Verlander vs. Adam Eaton
Los Angeles Angels at Los Angeles Dodgers
The Freeway series gets another set of games this weekend, and there's a particular interest from my part as this match-up was my preseason World Series pick. The Angels have really turned up the juice over the last month to jump out of the gate with the AL West lead. The Dodgers continue to fight tooth and nail with both San Diego and Arizona for the NL West title. Both these teams will be proven threats if they make the playoffs, because they will be fighting all season long to stay on top of their respective divisions.
Probable Pitching Match-ups
Friday - Ervin Santana vs. Derek Lowe
Saturday - Jared Weaver vs. Jason Schmidt
Sunday - Kelvim Escobar vs. Randy Wolf
