Strike Point: MLB Weekend Preview
by Strike Point Sports - 06/08/2007
Chicago Cubs at Atlanta Braves
The Cubbies have shown some signs of life after their semi-brawl in the dugout last week and Sweet Lou's unruly ejection and suspension this past Sunday. Alfonso Soriano looks to be coming around with his bat, and they catch the struggling Braves at a good point. Atlanta dropped three of four at home to Florida, and Chicago is looking for just their second series victory since early May.
Probable Pitching Match-ups:
Friday - Sean Marshall vs. Lance Cormier
Saturday - Jason Marquis vs. John Smoltz
Sunday - Ted Lilly vs. Bud Carlyle
New York Mets at Detroit Tigers
Another weekend of interleague is scheduled, and one of the better match-ups takes place in Detroit. The Tigers host top NL team New York, however these two surging offenses might shine over two of the better starting rotations thus far in the season. Detroit continues to chase down the Indians, while the Mets look to create more space between them and the rest of the NL East.
Probable Pitching Match-ups:
Friday - Jorge Sosa vs. Chad Durbin
Saturday - Oliver Perez vs. Jeremy Bonderman
Sunday - Tom Glavine vs. Nate Robertson
Seattle Mariners at San Diego Padres
One of the surprises of the AL heads down the West Coast to San Diego to take on the red-hot and NL West-leading Padres. The Mariners have done everything to be competitive this season, and their offense has been one of the biggest producers this month. San Diego has been getting impressive pitching from their starting rotation, while Trevor Hoffman and their bullpen continues to be untouchable.
Probable Pitching Match-ups:
Friday - Miguel Batista vs. Justin Germano
Saturday - Ryan Feierabend vs. David Wells
Sunday - Felix Hernandez vs. Chris Young
