Strike Point: MLB Weekend Preview
by Strike Point Sports - 05/18/2007
Weekend baseball encompasses some of the best match-ups of the week. We'll break down which series you should be focused on, as well as the pitching duels that will give the advantage to either side.
Chicago White Sox at Chicago Cubs
Cross-town rivals reunite their rivalry as interleague begins this weekend. Both come in having received terrific starting pitching over the last few weeks. The Cubs have been on a long road trip, so they'll be glad to get back to Wrigley. The Southsiders, meanwhile, make the short trip over, as they look to creep back into the AL Central race.
Probable Pitching Match-ups
Friday - Mark Buehrle vs. Ted Lilly
Saturday - Javier Vasquez vs. Jason Marquis
Sunday - TBD
New York Yankees at New York Mets
The Subway series is another wonderful interleague battle, and it couldn't be more interesting with these two clubs headed in opposite directions. The Yankees are looking to get over. 500, while the Mets have done well to jump out to a fast start this year and will be fighting with Atlanta all year long for the division crown.
Probable Pitching Match-ups
Friday - Andy Pettitte vs. Oliver Perez
Saturday - Darrell Rasner vs. Tom Glavine
Sunday - TBD
St. Louis at Detroit Tigers
Here's a meeting of last year's World Series representatives, but only one is playing like the team of last year. The Tigers look just as good, if not better, than last year's squad, but the Cards have struggled for a variety of reason and they look like nowhere near a playoff team.
Probable Pitching Match-ups
Friday - Braden Looper vs. Andrew Miller
Saturday - Anthony Reyes vs. Nate Robertson
Sunday - Brad Thompson vs. Justin Verlander
