Strike Point: MLB Weekend Preview
by Strike Point Sports - 04/12/2007
Weekend baseball encompasses some of the best match-ups of the week. We'll break down which series you should be focused on, as well as the pitching duels that will give the advantage to either side.
Florida Marlins at Atlanta Braves
The Braves are back. Yeah, it has been just one week, but Atlanta looks awfully tough. Not only are they getting hits outside of the Jones', but also the rotation and pen has been nearly untouchable thus far.
Florida, too, has been solid. Their young arms continue to be one of the best groups in the NL, while Miguel Cabrera has already supplanted himself as one of the front-runners for the MVP award. Expect a lot of 2-1, 3-2 ballgames in this series.
Probable Pitching Match-ups
F
riday - Dontrelle Willis vs. Mark Redman
Saturday - Scott Olsen vs. Kyle Davies
Sunday - Anibal Sanchez vs. Tim Hudson
Cincinnati Reds at Chicago Cubs
Round two already, but it's the home Cubbies that can't afford to drop this series. They desperately need a win in the opener to get their city behind them, not to mention that Carlos Zambrano can't drop two straight to fellow ace Aaron Harang, especially if he already named himself the Cy Young of the league, right?
Lost in Griffey being healthy and the Cubs silent bats is the Josh Hamilton saga. Long out of the league after being a top draft pick and throwing it all away because of a drug problem, he is back with his life turned around. He made the first two starts of his career for the Reds in Arizona earlier this week. All he did was hit a home run in each. What a story!
Probable Pitching Match-ups
Friday - Aaron Harang vs. Carlos Zambrano
Saturday - Bronson Arroyo vs. Rich Hill
Sunday - Kyle Lohse vs. Ted Lilly
Detroit Tigers at Toronto Blue Jays
This match-up couples the best rotation in the AL against one of the better batting lineups. Granted Kenny Rogers started the year on the DL, but the other four starters from last year continue to be strong, while Chad Durbin is a very reliable No. 5.
Toronto can score. We all know that. But do they have the arms beyond Halladay to accomplish more than a .500 record come September? They have a formidable lineup with Wells, Thomas, Rios and Overbay to put up some good numbers this weekend, but the main focus will be a potential gem opener between aces Jeremy Bonderman and Roy Halladay.
Probable Pitching Match-ups

Saturday - Chard Durbin vs. A.J. Burnett
Sunday - Nate Robertson vs. Josh Towers
