Strike Point: MLB Weekend Preview
by Strike Point Sports - 07/20/2007
Arizona Diamondbacks at Chicago Cubs
The Cubbies continue to chase down the first place Brewers, and they have one more series at Wrigley during their long homestand to cut another game or so off the deficit. The young, feisty D-Backs are also a contender in the west, thanks to some great, young hitting and fairly impressive arms. Also to note, Derrek Lee is out for the entire series as he is in the process of serving his five-game suspension.
Probable Pitching Match-ups
Friday - Brandon Webb vs. Jason Marquis
Saturday - Micah Owings vs. Rich Hill
Sunday - Yusmeiro Petit vs. Sean Marshall
New York Mets at Los Angeles Dodgers
The Mets stay out west, a place where they have not fared all too well. Continuing to have their difficulties with the talented NL West, the Dodgers get their chance after New York heads up the coast from a series with San Diego. The Mets are finally getting healthy, and it seems the biggest reason for their much-improved play.
Probable Pitching Match-ups
Friday - Oliver Perez vs. Brett Tomko
Saturday - Jorge Sosa vs. Brady Penny
Sunday - Orlando Hernandez vs. Mark Hendrickson
Chicago White Sox at Boston Red Sox
Who knows what the deal is with the BoSox? They have played some lackadaisical ball of late, and they better be keen on the fact that the Yankees are gaining some ground, albeit just a few games. Still in control of the division, Boston better not take the White Sox lightly, as they seem to be playing better, coming off a nice series victory in Cleveland.
Probable Pitching Match-ups
Friday - Jose Contreras vs. Josh Beckett
Saturday - John Danks vs. Kason Gabbard
Sunday - John Garland vs. Tim Wakefield
