Strike Point: MLB Weekend Preview
by Strike Point Sports - 06/29/2007
Milwaukee Brewers at Chicago Cubs
Don't look now but the Cubs are rolling. They are the hottest team in the NL, winning six straight. However, that means nothing if they can't take at least two off three at home against the division leading Brewers this weekend. This is without a doubt the biggest series of the first half for Chicago.
Probable Pitching Match-ups
Friday - Yovani Gallardo vs. Rich Hill
Saturday - Ben Sheets vs. Sean Marshall
Sunday - Claudio Vargas vs. Jason Marquis
Oakland Athletics at New York Yankees
Here are a couple of teams that really turned it around several weeks back. Both climbed over .500 and were looking to get back into their respective division races. However, since then they have both plummeted and now must try and rebound before losing all hope of vying for any shot at the playoffs in the very competitive AL.
Probable Pitching Match-ups
Friday - Joe Kennedy vs. Mike Mussina
Saturday - Chad Gaudin vs. Kei Igawa
Sunday - Dan Haren vs. Andy Pettitte
San Diego Padres at Los Angeles Dodgers
The NL West continues to bring the best baseball in my opinion to the front of the table with its three-headed monster of a division race. The Dodgers and Padres have the experience, while neither can slow the upstart Diamondbacks who are looking for another run at the playoffs. San Diego is turning in wonderful starting pitching performances, but Los Angeles seems to one-up them in the same regard. The Dodgers owe some payback for getting pushed around at Petco last time around.
Probable Pitching Match-ups
Friday - Chris Young vs. Hong Chih Kuo
Saturday - Jake Peavy vs. Brad Penny
Sunday - Justin Germano vs. Chad Billingsly
