Week 17 NFL Power Rankings
by Trevor Whenham - 12/29/2007
The last week of the NFL season draws near, and so many players are already dreaming of Monday mornings when they don't feel like they have been run over by a truck. That means we can expect a lot of bad games played by players we had forgotten about - heck, Chris Weinke is starting for San Francisco. This week won't prove much besides deciding a playoff spot or two, but it does make the gap between the good teams and the bad in this league even more obvious. That's what a Power Ranking does, too, so let's get started:

Thanksgiving is here and not only does that mean flavorful food and fantastic football, but it also means that as much as I want to be a degenerate gambler this week I have to take a few hours, or maybe even a day, to really think about what is important to me in my life and how fortunate I am. With a beautiful, loving wife, our first child on the way, great friends and family, and a job that I love even when it drives me crazy, I really don't know how I could be any happier.

Sorry boys and girls, no time for a snappy lead this week. I'm headed to Vegas for a New Media Expo and I've got a long walk from Atlanta. But don't think I'll leave you hanging! Here's Doc's Sports Week 10 NFL Power Rankings:

Week 9 NFL Power Rankings

Here it is: the Super Bowl in November. The New England-Indianapolis game this weekend has already received more individual bets than any other two games this weekend combined. It's clearly going to be the biggest handle of any game this season, and I think that it's interesting that with a majority of the action - nearly 72 percent - coming in on the Patriots the line has still managed a reverse line movement Indy's way.

Week 8 NFL Power Rankings

The Giants and Dolphins are ready to tussle in England, the Texans and Chargers have no idea where they're going to play, the Browns are road favorites, the Patriots are 17-point favorites against one of the top teams in the NFC, and the Lions have been fielding playoff questions from the media all week. What the hell is going on here?

First, I just want to say how much I respect Peter King. The guy is a great reporter and one of the writers that I go out of my way to read when it comes to the NFL. He has insights and access that I could only dream of and, perhaps most importantly, you can tell he's just a hell of a nice guy.

Week 6 NFL Power Rankings

My Captain Obvious approach has continued to yield results as we have posted an 11-5-1 against the spread mark over the past two weeks, proving that I can put my money where my mouth is. This weekend is a bit more difficult to handicap though as there are six teams with bye weeks. Not only is this butchering fantasy football teams across the country but it's also leaving gamblers in a position where they're faced with less betting options and tighter lines.

Week 5 NFL Power Rankings
by Robert Ferringo - 10/04/2007
After a strong 6-3-1 weekend NFL week (+7.5 Units), I'm forgoing the flood of statistical information that I normally pack into my Power Rankings and we're going to get back to basics. Sometimes, handicappers can make things too complicated when it's really as easy as, "New England is awesome and Cincinnati can't possibly stop them. I'll lay the points and start spending that money at halftime." I know it seems odd to change things up after a big Sunday, but I'm just trying to stay sharp by looking at both sides of the coin.

Week 4 NFL Power Rankings

It's Revenge Weekend in the NFL as players, coaches, and Daunte Culpepper (he gets his own subcategory) gear up to take on former teams and organizations that, at one point or another, inflicted the type of physical or emotional damage that would make a 240-pound beast recoil in agony. Jobs, glory, money - whatever was pilfered will be paid for in blood on the field, and it should make for some intriguing wagering.

Week 3 NFL Power Rankings
by Robert Ferringo - 09/21/2007
Week 1 in the NFL was a cornucopia of cash for square bettors as favorites posted a solid 11-5 record against the spread. But the books came back with a vengeance in the sequel, capitalizing on Overreaction Week when the chalk posted a feeble 4-12 mark against the number in Week 2. So what does that have in store for us in Week 3? Well, my friends, that's why they play the games.

Week 2 NFL Power Rankings

Panic and overreaction. Yes, those are the two emotions most closely associated with coming home from Las Vegas and having your wife ambush you with a credit card bill with a $750 charge at Treasures or Swingers or any other establishment with multiple Xs in its name. But panic and overreaction are also the standard operating procedure for fans, gamblers, and fantasy football freaks heading into Week 2 of the National Football League season. Those feelings are weakness, and they spread like VD.

Opening Week NFL Power Rankings
by Robert Ferringo - 09/06/2007
I know your nipples are hard that the National Football League is back in full effect. All of ours are, including Kelly Clarkson's. I know that you've been reading the magazines, listening to bobbleheads like Screamin' A. Smith, and that your fantasy football foresight instantly makes you a more qualified general manager than Matt Millen. You are the man, and this is going to be the year that you dominate the books with a magical run of parlay winners, backdoor covers, and over/under acumen. You're an unstoppable force and just a few decent weeks away from refinishing the basement. I got it.
