Inside Las Vegas
by Vegas Sports Informer - 06/08/2007
It's the dog days of summer and the Vegas sports books will probably be empty this weekend. But this Saturday will be the running of 139th Belmont Stakes in New York. The sports world isn't buzzing about this horse race because once again we do not have a horse trying for the Triple Crown. The Preakness winner, Curlin, is running in the seven-horse field as an overwhelming favorite at 6-to-5.
Here is the rest of what we're looking at for the race:
1. Imawildandcrazyguy (20/1)
2. Tiago (10/1)
3. Curlin (6/5)
4. CP West (12/1)
5. Slew's Tizzy 20/1
6. Hard Spun 5/2
7. Rags to Riches 3/1
Even though there isn't much buzz in Sin City this weekend around what should have (and probably still will be) a great horse race, there is always baseball to look forward to. We have the second go-round of Interleague play and some very good teams will be matching up: Houston at Chicago White Sox, Oakland at San Francisco and the New York Mets at Detroit all pique my interest. But perhaps the series I'm most looking forward to is Detroit heading to Arizona. This three-game set should feature some great pitching match-ups and provide some exciting outcomes.
Also, don't forget that the WNBA is in full swing and there are a pair of big Eastern Conference games this Sunday. Besides that, there's also the Arena Football League Week 15 contests, and the playoffs are just around the corner. And yes, the Las Vegas Gladiators still stink. Last Sunday I was at their game when the team may have reached an all-time low by not scoring a single point in the second half. OUCH!!!
All in all this weekend is full of sports betting opportunities. But will the public come to Vegas and bet? I'm putting my wager squarely on NO! Welcome to the dog days of summer here in Sin City.
