Back by popular demand, this season it will be a bit different. Each week we'll delve into some of college football's smaller conferences and focus and breakdown more obscure match-up that are off the radar for most beyond the Top 25. Here's what we have going on this week:
Rice +21 over Houston - Saturday, 3:30 pm EST
The Owls came through with a nice cover and outright win last week in Southern Miss as a similar underdog. They again are heavily priced against Houston. However, after building some momentum last week, look for Rice to again keep this one competitive.
Rice has covered two of the last three meetings, while the Cougars haven't exactly been sound defensively, allowing 67 points in their last two games; both losses.
In a high scoring effort, the points will be good here. Play Rice.
Prediction: Houston 37, Rice 30
Army/Central Michigan Over 54 ½ - Saturday, 3:30 pm EST
Central Michigan has really found their stride at home, and in their own stadium they have been nearly impossible to stop on offense. The Chippewas have reeled off two straight big wins after a tough couple of setbacks, scoring 93 points in the two victories.
CMU is 3-1-1 with the Over this season, and at home they'll definitely control the game against an Army that has struggled away from home this season. The Over is 5-1-1 in Central Michigan's last seven non-conference games, and this total hits as well.
Prediction: Central 34, Army 26
Colorado State -3.5 over Air Force - Saturday, 9:00 pm EST
The Rams have really had a tough season, and it started with an overtime loss in their rivalry season opener to Colorado. Since then their struggles have continued, as they are 0-5 ATS this year.
However, we are looking for them to breakthrough at home against their secondary intrastate rivals Air Force. Colorado State has gone 4-1 ATS in the last five meetings, while the Falcons have lost and failed to cover both road games this season.
This game will be close through, but the offensive balance of quarterback Caleb Hanie and running back Kyle Bell will pull through and secure their first win of the season.
Prediction: Colorado State 27, Air Force 20
