Breeders' Cup Favorites To Watch
by Trevor Whenham - 11/01/2006
When it comes to betting on the Breeders' Cup, everyone dreams of the big score - hitting longshots in every race and retiring to a beach somewhere with your riches. While it is true that some longshots do come in and pay ridiculously and beautifully huge prices, the favorites also do their job at a decent rate. Over the last six years, 15 post time favorites have won their races. That's 2.5 winning favorites per year.

Todd Pletcher Aiming for Big Day at Breeders' Cup
by Trevor Whenham - 11/01/2006
If Todd Pletcher doesn't have a very good day at the Breeders' Cup he has no one to blame but himself. The trainer has an absolute embarrassment of riches when it comes to starters on the big day. The 18 horses he has entered is by far a record for the most any one trainer has had.

2006 Breeders' Cup Preview: Distaff
by Trevor Whenham - 11/01/2006
The Distaff is a magical race. In the 1995 version at Belmont, the race was unlike anything we have seen at the Breeders' Cup. Stablemates Heavenly Prize and Inside Information were an entry, and at 4/5 they were clearly the class of the field. Inside Information was the better horse, with six wins in seven starts, but not by much.

2006 Breeders' Cup Preview: Sprint
by Trevor Whenham - 10/30/2006
The Sprint is a cruel race. It will take just more than a minute to run on Breeders' Cup day, and in that short time you could see your dreams of riches crash to the ground. Overall, the favorites have won about 40 percent of the races in the 22-year history of the Breeders' Cup, which is well above what we see on regular race days, but only five favorites have won the sprint, a 23 percent rate.

Playing Exotics On Breeders' Cup Day
by Trevor Whenham - 10/26/2006
If you are going to be betting on the Breeders' Cup and you aren't seriously considering putting a significant chunk of your bankroll towards the exotics then you are, frankly, missing the boat and giving up a chance at serious profits.

Breeders' Cup Betting
by Trevor Whenham - 10/25/2006
When it comes to playing the horses, there's betting and then there's Breeders' Cup betting. We almost need a different word for what we will get to experience on Nov. 4, because it is an entirely different experience than we get on a normal day at the races. Everything is so much bigger on Breeders' Cup day - the fields, the purses, the pools, the payoffs. For horseplayers, the Breeders' Cup is like the Super Bowl, the BCS and the Final Four all played in the same afternoon.

Breeders' Cup Classic May Have Best Field Ever
by Trevor Whenham - 10/25/2006
No matter what happens on Nov. 4, the Breeders Cup Classic is going to be the most anticipated race on the card, and it almost certainly won't disappoint. It's always a good race, but we have probably never seen an edition that has the star power that this one does. This is a David and Goliath story, except Goliath will be fighting a whole bunch of strong, talented and potentially dangerous Davids at the same time.

Betting the Breeders' Cup Juvenile
by Trevor Whenham - 10/25/2006
Of all the Breeders' Cup races, one of my favorites is always the Juvenile. The horses are so young and are developing and changing so quickly that the race is a complete crapshoot. They are also usually racing longer than they have ever raced and some horses are going around two turns for the first time.

Finding Longshots at the Breeders' Cup
by Trevor Whenham - 10/25/2006
The Breeders' Cup is heaven for everyone who likes to play the ponies. The prices are better than you see any other day of the year - the average win ticket pays $25. It's also a perfect day for longshot hunters. With full fields of 14 expected in seven of the eight races there will be 10 or more legitimate longshots in each race.

Breeders' Cup Winners
by Trevor Whenham - 10/26/2006
On the surface, handicapping the Breeders Cup is almost impossible. Horses come from all over the world, having run at different distances against different competition and we are supposed to figure out how they will run on the biggest day in racing against huge, very good fields. With some work it's not as hard as that, but it can be intimidating.

Breeders' Cup Main Event Will Be a True Classic

The main event of this year's Breeders' Cup World Thoroughbred Championships, without a doubt, is the Classic. The 23rd renewal should live up to its name at Churchill Downs.
