This year's Preakness Stakes Results was interesting as Afleet Alex came to the backstretch in position to blow away the field when he ran into the back of Scrappy T and nearly threw his jockey off. However, Jeremy Rose made a great recovery to stay on his horse and pulled away for victory in the Preakness. Afleet Alex was by far the best horse in the Preakness Stakes and will be a heavy favorite when the Belmont States comes on June 11, 2005.
Kentucky Derby Winner, Giacomo, received little respect in this race, but put together a nice third place finish. I felt this would be his toughest race because of the shorter distance and he showed me something coming from way back to take the show position. I look for another strong performance out of him in the Belmont Stakes which is the longest triple crown race and really sets up for a closer.
Nick Zito layed another egg after his lackluster performance in the Preakness. His best finish was fourth and that was 21-1 longshot Sun King. Zito's two Florida horses have not been able to adjust to the conditions up North and one has to wonder how that will affect Zito future triple crown entries. More Preakness Stakes Results like this make most beleive that Zito had too much on his plate to handle.
