2006 NCAA National Championship Preview
by Robert Ferringo - 04/02/2006
And so this great symphony of buzzer-beaters, bracket busters and broken dreams will reach its crescendo on Monday night when Florida and UCLA will meet for the national championship. Three weeks of calamity and confoundment will come to a close as we finally crown a king of college basketball.

2006 Final Four Preview - Florida/George Mason
by Robert Ferringo - 03/31/2006
There were exactly 65,536 possible combinations of teams that could have met in Indianapolis for the Final Four. My guess is that the permutation we've gotten - Louisiana State, UCLA, Florida, and George Mason - was right around No. 60,187. The main culprit is obviously the 11th-seeded Patriots, a team from the outer rings of the college basketball universe.

2006 Final Four Preview - UCLA/LSU
by Robert Ferringo - 03/30/2006
Last weekend's Oakland Regional Final between UCLA and Memphis was one of the worst college basketball games I've ever seen. But it did give us one of the most unintentionally funny moments of the NCAA Tournament thus far. Late in the second half when it was clear that UCLA would advance, CBS cut to jovial Bruins legend (and famed Deadhead) Bill Walton as Len Elmore asked Gus Johnson, "You think he's having flashbacks?"

The Final Four No One Expected
by Trevor Whenham - 03/28/2006
I don't know you, but if you try to tell me that you picked all four teams in the Final Four, I'm going to have to call you a liar. Lots of people had UCLA, a few even had LSU and picking Florida isn't outside the realm of possibility. It would have taken some real psychic foresight, though, to pick all three.

The Pinnacle Pulse -- March Madness From A Bookie's Perspective

The Ferringo NCAA Tournament Report - First Weekend Provided Many Surprises
by Robert Ferringo - 03/21/2006
The following is a list of some players that are underrated heading into the 2006 World Cup in Germany. I think that these players could have a major impact on the outcome of the tournament. Some of these players are known by many soccer fans, but they are players I feel are not given enough credit for what they have done on the field.

MVC Continues To Impress In Tourney
by Mike Hayes - 03/20/2006
Less than a week after criticizing the selection of four Missouri Valley Conference teams to the NCAA tournament, while at the same time acknowledging that he didn't see them play this season, CBS analyst Billy Packer is sure to get his fill of the MVC this week, not to mention a whole lot of egg on his face - as two of the four invites are among the elite of college basketball and in the Sweet Sixteen.

Betting On The Right Underdogs In The NCAA Tournament
by Mike Hayes - 03/14/2006
I've heard it said that that Oral Roberts (20-11) might be the best team ever seeded No. 16 in the NCAA Tournament and that the Golden Eagles have the best chance in recent memory to rewrite the history books against a vulnerable No. 1 in Memphis.

Doc's 2006 March Madness Preview: Minneapolis Region
by Robert Ferringo - 03/14/2006
Ripping a few bongs of opium-laced bud and then chasing it with shots of Jack Daniels is usually not the best thing to do before a blind date or a court appearance. It's generally a recipe for disaster. Of course, you're likely to get a couple of good stories out of it if you do.

Doc's 2006 March Madness Preview: Atlanta Region
by Robert Ferringo - 03/14/2006
After beating four of the country's top 30 teams in four consecutive nights - including the undisputed No. 1 club in the land - ripping through this bracket should be a breeze for Syracuse. All the Big East champions have to deal with are the ACC, Big 12 and SEC regular season winners, the Big Ten tournament champs, and a No. 8 seed that's 26-2 and was ranked in the top ten in the country.

Doc's 2006 March Madness Preview: Oakland Region
by Robert Ferringo - 03/14/2006
There's certainly not going to be much defense going on in the Oakland Region. That seems fitting for the laid-back Left Coast, and Memphis, UCLA and Gonzaga are all capable of scintillating offensive play.

Doc's 2006 March Madness Preview: Washington D.C. Region

Scandal. Demagogic leaders. Unpredictability. Amazing inefficiency and ineffectiveness. Gratuitous nudity. Bad suits, worse accents, and more glad-handing than any Normal Human could stomach.

Finding the Right 'Cinderella' in the NCAA Tournament
by Trevor Whenham - 03/14/2006
The best feeling in filling out a bracket is picking an upset and having it come true. Upsets are always going to happen, but the trick is picking games that have the potential to go your way and avoiding the ones that have no chance.

Scouting The NIT
by Trevor Whenham - 03/13/2006
Maybe it's because I am a huge Michigan fan and I have to find the positives from another dismal season, but I think that the National Invitation Tournament is as competitive and hotly contested thus year as it has been for a long time.

2006 NIT Features Deep Field
by Mike Hayes - 03/13/2006
In case you missed it amidst all of the NCAA selection hoopla on Sunday, there is another tournament that begins play Tuesday. In some future season the top-seeded teams in this year's National Invitation Tournament could just as likely find themselves at the top of the NCAA tournament brackets as Louisville, Maryland, Cincinnati and Michigan highlight a deep NIT field.

Picking Some Low Seeds Key To Successful Bracket
by Trevor Whenham - 03/13/2006
It might be tempting to pick four No. 1 seeds for your Final Four on your tournament bracket, but no more than three have ever made it in one year. It seems like most years, you have a team coming from the No. 4-8 seed that makes it through.

March Madness: Ten Games That Can't be Missed
by Trevor Whenham - 03/13/2006
Tournament time is just a couple of days away. Every game is exciting, but there are ten possible games in the first three rounds that have me licking my lips in expectation. The best game of the tournament is always hard to predict, but my bet is that there is a good chance that it could come from this list:

March Madness Betting Online Will Dwarf Super Bowl
by Pinnacle Sportsbook - 03/13/2006
With office pools and online betting gaining in popularity and acceptance each year, "March Madness" betting online has surpassed even the Super Bowl as the most widely bet annual sporting event in North America. Of the estimated $3.5 to $4 billion wagered on last year's NCAA tournament worldwide, industry experts predicted at least one third of that total was bet online.

College Hoops Preview: 2006 Big East Tournament
by Robert Ferringo - 03/07/2006
For months now I have been terrified and fascinated at the Big East Conference. With awe-inspiring force, the league has cast a pall over the college basketball landscape, and for me its utter domination will be one of the lasting themes of this season.

Why Duke Won't Win The National Championship
by Robert Ferringo - 03/06/2006
I hate Duke. I always have and I always will. Normally, an admission like that would destroy my credibility. You can't trust someone's opinion when they're discussing something they loathe.

College Hoops Preview: 2006 SEC Tournament
by Robert Ferringo - 03/06/2006
Have you ever seen the show House on Fox? I'm not really into it, but I know a lot of people that are fanatics. The basic premise is that bitter, know-it-all Dr. House spends all of his time limping around a hospital, insulting people and diagnosing bizarre and fantastic diseases like spontaneous combustion and Creutzfeldt-Jakob.

College Hoops Preview: 2006 ACC Tournament
by Robert Ferringo - 03/06/2006

College Hoops Preview: 2006 Pac-10 Tournament
by Robert Ferringo - 03/06/2006
Maybe it's the East Coast Bias. Maybe it's the time differential. Maybe it's the lack of a dominant team. I don't know what it is, but I do know that the Pac-10 has been getting disrespected all season long.

College Hoops Preview: 2006 Big 12 Tournament
by Robert Ferringo - 03/06/2006
Conference USA has an excuse - the Big East stole its best teams. The Atlantic 10 was never that good to begin with. The Mountain West and the WAC? I still can't tell them apart. All of these conferences have reasons for sending a nominal amount of schools to the NCAA Tournament. But the Big 12? They just suck.

College Hoops Preview: 2006 Big Ten Tournament
by Robert Ferringo - 03/06/2006
I've decided that the Big Ten ceased being a legitimate conference about two weeks ago. Don't get me wrong, the teams are competitive and the games are entertaining. But looking at the plot lines that are unfolding as we head into the league tournament, you have to admit that the league appears to be following the sitcom formula a little too closely for my liking.

Doc's Scouts The Mid-Major Conference Tournaments
by Robert Ferringo - 02/28/2006
Long before college or professional basketball had earned the national recognition and acclaim that it currently entertains, there was the Illinois High School Boys' Basketball Tournament. That event, which began as an invitation-only affair in 1908, featured more than 900 teams by the 1930s and was the source of a riotous, cultish following.
