Wednesday night, the Kansas City Royals will start Jeremy Guthrie against the Houston Astros and Dallas Keuchel.  It will be the 3rd starts for both pitchers this season.

Jeremy Guthrie picked up his 2nd win in as many starts after allowing 1 run on 4 hits with a walk and 4 strikeouts in his last start.  Last season, the veteran right-hander had a 15 – 12 record after starting 33 games with an ERA of 4.04.  2013 was the first time since 2007 that Guthrie had a winning record and he could post another winning season this year if he continues pitching well.

Guthrie’s only start against the Astros in 2013 was a disaster for him and the Royals.  He took the loss after surrendering 6 runs on 8 hits in just 5 innings of work.   Houston’s Jason Castro is 3 of 8 against Guthrie with a triple, a home run and 2 RBIs.

Dallas Keuchel got his first win of the season in his last start after allowing just 1 run on 5 hits in 7 innings.  He struck out 6 while walking 2.   2013 was just Keuchel’s 2nd major league season and he went 6 – 10 in 22 starts and 8 relief appearances with an ERA of 5.15. 

Keuchel won his only start against the Royals in 2013 but it wasn’t easy.  He gave up 4 runs on 9 hits in 6.2 innings.  Kansas City’s Norichika Aoki is 3 of 8 with 4 RBIs against Keuchel.
