by Dave Schwab - 3/28/2012
WagerWeb has quickly established itself as one of the most popular online sportsbooks in the gaming industry for its customer-friendly attitude. It has you completely covered when it comes to providing the most up-to-the-minute betting lines for every major sporting event on the schedule as offered through its website.
You are literally a click away from all the action with WagerWeb’s ‘Active Sports Lines’ tab clearly labeled on its sportsbook home page. The following is a look at a few of this week’s ‘active betting lines’ that are currently on available on the site.
NCAA Tournament - Final Four
This Saturday at the Superdome in New Orleans the Louisville Cardinals will square off against the Kentucky Wildcats on one side of the bracket, followed by the Kansas Jayhawks battling the Ohio State Buckeyes on the other side in this year’s NCAA Men’s Tournament Final Four.
WagerWeb has a complete set of college basketball odds for both games, including a spread, money line, and total line for the entire game and first half. It also has odds for each of the team’s chances to win this year’s national title game, which will be played at the same venue this upcoming Monday night.
Kentucky remains the prohibitive favorite to win it all at -185, followed by Ohio State at +265, Kansas at +400, and Louisville at +800.
If you want to place a wager on which player will be the championship game’s MVP, the favorite is Kentucky’s Anthony Davis at +185. The second favorite is his teammate Michael Kidd Gilchrist at +500 followed by the Buckeyes Jared Sullinger at +600. If you think that Kansas is going to win the title then take the longer odds on Thomas Robinson at +800. If you think that the Big East’s Louisville Cardinals are going to complete another Connecticut-like run to a national title then go with the even longer odds on Gorgui Dieng at +1500.
Major League Baseball
The MLB regular season gets underway next week for 28 of the 30 teams, but the Seattle Mariners and Oakland Athletics get to start their regular season early with a two-game set at the Tokyo Dome in Japan.
Seattle already won the first game, 3-1, and will send Jason Vargas to the mound in Game 2 to face Oakland’s Bartolo Colon. Game time is set for a 5:05 a.m. (EST) start on Thursday morning, which is not exactly what you would call prime time. The money line has the Athletics as slight favorites a -115 and the total line is set at 8.5.
There are also a full array of MLB futures covering everything from each team’s odds to win its division, league pennant, and the World Series. You can also wager on the ‘over/under’ for each team’s projected win total for the regular season.
PGA Golf - The Shell Houston Open
The Shell Houston Open is the last tune up before next week’s Masters at Augusta, which is the first Major of the year. WagerWeb offers a full set of odds for the event with action getting underway with Thursday’s first round, including odds to win, Top-10 Finish, Top-5 Finish, plus odds for which player will have the highest finish amongst his peers by geographic area of origin.
Lee Westwood is the favorite to win this week at +850, but most golf fans will be closely following this tournament’s second-favorite, Phil Mickelson at +900, to gauge what kind of form he may bring into Augusta next week. Mickelson also comes in as this event’s defending champion after winning the Shell Houston Open in 2011. Unfortunately, following this victory he could only manage a tie for 27th in last year’s Masters.
NASCAR Sprint Cup Futures
This year’s NASCAR Sprint Cup series just wrapped up its fifth point race of the season last Sunday at Fontana, California, with defending Cup Champion Tony Stewart winning for the second time this season. WagerWeb has updated its futures odds to win this year’s Sprint Cup Championship and Stewart is the favorite to successfully defend his title at +400. Jimmy Johnson, who held the very same title for the previous five seasons, is the second-favorite to reclaim the Cup at +475.
Last season’s runner up, Carl Edwards, is the third-favorite at +500 along with Kyle Busch. Perennial fan-favorite Dale Earnhardt Jr. is among the moderate longshots to win it all at +1000, despite getting off to another strong start this year.
